Lake Elsinore, Calif. - Irene died peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Agape Nursing Home in Corona, California, where she had been living since October 2014.

Irene, daughter of Seth Gustafson and Sadie (Norman) Gustafson, was born on April 26, 1925 in Salol, Minnesota, where she grew up on her parent’s farm when they moved from the town of Salol after a fire destroyed their combination home and general store.

Irene married Elmer Mattson on July 11, 1943 at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Salol, Minnesota. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Los Angeles, California.
