Northwest Angle 33 residents mourn loss of family pets

Elsa, a husky cross from Northwest Angle First Nation 33, was one of several dogs killed when the family pets strayed across the ice into the neighboring community of Angle Inlet, MN on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Lake of the Woods County Sheriff's department in Baudette, MN, is investigating the incident.

Northwest Angle 33 First Nation residents are appealing to U.S. law enforcement officials following a disturbing event that occurred in the neighboring community of Angle Inlet, MN, over the weekend.

Band member Norma Gerard told the Miner and News that several dogs belonging to residents of the First Nation were killed when they wandered across the ice and into the border town of Angle Inlet, MN, on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Gerard said it appears the four dogs were run over repeatedly by someone on a snowmobile and some may have been shot as well.
