It highlighted both the insanity and the idiocy of those in power, starting with Nurse Ratched, a miserable dame who never deviated from her own sense of torture - the same dreary routine, day in and day out at the mental institution.

When Randle Patrick McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) wanted to watch the World Series, Nurse Ratched denied his request because it would change the daily routine.

If you're with a bunch of nuts, as McMurphy saw it, a break in the routine is to be desired.
