On Monday morning, which was Memorial Day, I felt sufficiently nostalgic to remember the Sisters of St. Joseph, who had us stand at attention and say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at Christ the King Catholic Grade School in Minneapolis and would utilize a long pointer to smack any slacker who was not standing tall.

That was even before Congress added "One nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance to show that we are a God-fearing nation.
