The birds seem to be thankful that many of us are filling the bird feeders again. On Thanksgiving families in the community gathered to visit and enjoy good food. Condolences to Beverly (Mellstrom) Brandt’s family on her passing September 16th. Beverly lived with her parents Herbert and Julia Mellstrom in Salol while growing up and attending school. Herbert owned the Mellstrom grocery store. Myron and Charlotte Grafstrom, from Chippewa Falls, came up for a short visit. I enjoyed lunch with them at Joes Place in Warroad. March came in like a lamb- so hope nice weather continues all month. Special memories of Emerson Michal, my grandson, who passed away on February 26th. Emerson grew up to be an outstanding man and had a generous, loving heart. Emerson earned his Eagle Scout with the Roseau Boy Scout Troop 56 and graduated from Roseau High School. Kay Vertina, from Mpls, and Jeff Vertina, from Brooklyn Park, drove up to Salol a week ago. They brought Jerry and Katherine to Grand Forks where Jerry had eye surgery the following day. Sven and Heather Grafstrom and family went to Rugby, North Dakota to visit the Fergusons for the weekend. Sympathy to the family of Marianne Kristofferson who passed away Friday. Marianne lived here almost her entire life. She was a very active church member. Many days she would be out walking and always stopped to visit. Take a drive down Main Street in Salol some early evening. Homes and the “Salol 1 Stop” have Christmas lights glowing making a picturesque place where children are skating on the newly flooded skating rink. Condolences to Erin Grafstrom and family on the passing of her grandmother in East Grand Forks. Halloween evening was windy and cold but it didn’t deter the little tricks and treaters. There were huge tracks in the snow on the very edge of my yard and garden one day. Later my neighbor, Eric Morey, stopped here with a letter from the Roseau Post Office addressed to my maiden name! It’s blueberry picking time. Funny how those berries grow so beautifully without human care. No one needs to weed or water and they just wait in the woods for us to fill our pails! The Moreys went on a camping trip to Shevlin on the weekend. During the first night they had to move to a church yard as 70 mph winds were forecasted.
