Submitted by: Ryan Bergeron The Tribune (Greenbush, Minn.) Plenty of different tunes will be playing in Grand Forks, robotics tunes that is, when nearly 60 high school FIRST Robotics team from near and far arrive at the Alerus Center for the sixth annual Great Northern Regional, March 6-9. The Great Northern Regional Planning committee is hosting this event, led by the following teams: #876, Thunder Robotics, out of Northwood, N.D., #2883, F.R.E.D., out of Warroad, Minn., #5172, Gator Robotics, out of Greenbush-Middle River (Minn.), and #4607,... Submitted by: Gregg Iverson Coming off a five-game losing streak, Coach Ryan DeBock and the boys basketball team hope to turn things around at the start of February. They would be able to get that chance at home, Friday, 2/2, versus the BGMR Gators. The Gators always have a good following, and the gym was fairly full. As I reported for the last meeting between these two teams at the Swamp, the Gators are down this year and have a young team, with no seniors. Tonight, they would start three juniors, a freshman and a seventh grader. Rest...
Submitted by: Gregg Iverson For the past few years, the Rams boys’ basketball team has been scheduling a Section matchup at home, with the Crookston Pirates, during the Christmas break. I can only imagine it’s a welcomed game, too. Not only for the players, but for the coaches as well. I mean, how many practices can you have during any school break before one starts to get complacent? Just after Boxing Day, (if you don’t know, look it up,) the Rams hosted the Pirates on the afternoon of Wednesday, 12/27. The Rams are sitting on a 4 game winni...
Submitted by Gregg Iverson The Roseau Rams boys’ basketball team has been clicking right along as of late. Although the games have been close, they’ve done what it takes to come out on top. They certainly have been entertaining games to say the least. Back on Tuesday, December 12th, the boys traveled to Kittson County Central to take on the Bearcats. KCC has had our number the last few meetings, but Coach Ryan DeBock and staff had a very strategic game plan going in. The plan was to contain KCC’s Ty Vig. He only is 6’6”, is very athletic...
The Green Report: By Gregg Iverson Blessed by another beautiful evening week 6 was one for the history books, and I mean history! Paired up this evening were a couple of octogenarians. Wayne Czeh, 83, and Bob Lund who will be 83, according to some worthy sources, made up to be the oldest age, added together that has ever been paired up against each other during men's league. As one could expect, it was a gentlemen's game and who won, is not the point of this. Joining Wayne and Bob, tonight, m...
The Green Report: Gregg Iverson What turned out to be a rainy/gloomy day on Wednesday, June 7th, turned out to be a beautiful evening for golf with the temps hovering around 70 degrees. Before I get into the logistics of how the evening unfolded, I have to give congratulations to your 3 time section 8AA champions, the Roseau Rams boys golf team! The team put on quite the performance in the 2 day event, held in Bemidji at the Town and Country Club, last week. They walked away 31 strokes ahead of the next team. Adding to that, Max Wilson and Teag... Full story
Submitted by: Gregg Iverson The boys basketball team would finish out the regular season on the road on Friday 2/28. They traveled to the end of Highway 11 east, taking on the International Falls Bronco's. Coach Hayden and team were hoping to close out the season on a high note, as this game would match up well for the Rams. The first point was scored by putting the Broncos at the charity stripe, but then Roseau would take the lead with the next four points. I'Falls would soon take the lead back, 5-4 and the Rams would never regain the lead...
The Roseau Rams received the fourth seed in the north half of Section 8AA and they hosted the Thief River Falls Prowlers, who had the 5th seed. The game was played on Thursday, March 7th, in front of a very good crowd of sports fans. This team had already set a regular season record with 20 wins and were chomping at the bit to get that 21st win to tie the overall most wins in a season. Coach Hayden and staff would have the team prepared, but hey, this is March Madness baby! Time for upsets and all players are going to give it their all. The...
By Gregg Iverson The Roseau Rams boys basketball team traveled to Bagley on Valentine’s Day and played a sweetheart of a game! This would be a key section game and after taking two consecutive losses the week before, Coach Hayden and the team were looking to get back on track. The Rams scored first, but the Flyer's were keeping themselves in check by not allowing the Rams to get too much of a comfortable lead. Having said that, they would tie up the game at 13 early in the first half. Soon after, the Rams took control of the rest of the half g...
The Roseau Rams boys basketball team played three games in four days last week, taking one day off for some worship and a little R & R. Last Friday and Saturday the Rams would play two teams from the same town. East Grand Forks Senior High and East Grand Forks Sacred Heart. Friday, 2/8, Roseau would host the Senior High Green Wave. EGF wasn't too kind to the Rams early in the season as they sent the Rams home with around a 20 point loss. If we were to get even with them in the section rankings, Coach Hayden would have to have his boys come...
Been cold enough for you? It can quit snowing anytime now! Well at least we don’t have to worry about mudslides or earthquakes! Pretty much sums up some opening greetings and dialogues I have heard and/or been part of lately. Let’s switch this conversation to some basketball, now. The Roseau Rams, both boys and girls headed west last Friday, 2/1, for a double header night against Ada-Borup/Norman County West. Norman County West came into the athletic part of the Ada/Borup school district during the 2017-18 school year and it has really enh...
The Roseau Rams are now on a nine game winning streak and have a 13-2 overall record, having played two games this week with a third one just being postponed on 1/29 due to the other school, WOA (Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) canceling school. That game by the way has been rescheduled for Feb. 11, 2019, so mark that on your calendar. The Rams traveled to Red Lake Falls to take on the Rebels of RLCC on Jan. 24. Now if you were to have looked at RLCC's record (now 6-8) and looked at the teams they have played, you would have noticed that quite a few of...
Coach Ken Hayden has his varsity players riding high with an overall record of 11-2, and still sitting at a 3-1 section record, with not many section games being played as of late. In fact, the next section game won't be until February 8th, at home against East Grand Forks, when the Rams try to avenge an earlier season loss to the Green Wave. Only one game to report on from this past week, where the Rams found themselves in the Lancaster school gym, taking on the Bearcats of Kittson Central. KC did not have a very good earlier outing in...
East Grand Forks, Hawley and Roseau, all have 10-2 overall records, with EGF and Hawley both being 4-1 and Roseau 3-1 in section play. So as you can see, it's a pretty tight race with just about another month and a half left in the regular season. Reviewing the past two games played, Roseau traveled to Grygla to take on the Grygla-Goodridge Chargers on 1/10. Coach Hayden was hoping to have his team prepared in this game, looking to extend the Rams four game winning streak. Most always a basketball game starts off with the opening tip off,...
Happy New Year sports fans! Here we are, right in the thick of basketball season and the boys Roseau Rams basketball team has been on a roll and have provided some very entertaining games for the fans. Maybe some high blood pressure and some hair pulling for Coach Hayden and staff, but nonetheless, the 8-2 Rams have won their last three games. Just a short two days after the Christmas break, the Rams found themselves right in the muck of the Swamp, taking on the BGMR Gators, on January 3, 2019. Anytime you take on the Gators, Coach Christian,...
The boys basketball team was scheduled for a home game on Thursday, December 27th, during the Christmas break, but 'Ol Man Winter had other plans! Things did settle down a bit, so the visitors from Crookston were able to make it the next day for a Friday afternoon game. This would be a key North half section game for the Rams, one that Coach Hayden would have high hopes of notching another “W” in the win column. Since this was an afternoon game and my Christmas break was over (sigh) I was not able to attend the game. However, I did have the...
The last two games the Ram's played were against section opponents and both were played on the road. The first game on Thursday, 12/13, was just to the east 20 miles against the long time rivals, the Warroad Warriors. The last few meetings against the Warriors haven't exactly gone the way Coach Hayden would have wanted them to go, even though on paper, the Ram's had the better record and in playoff's had the higher seed and a home draw. But that was then, and this is now. The first half, well, let's just say, had a little lack of flow and...
The boys’ basketball team held their end of season banquet last Sunday, March 25th, at the Roseau Evangelical Covenant Church. Coach Hayden and Coach Nelson both spoke on the great season the teams had this year finishing 17-10 overall, with a 5-4 section record. They finished as the Northwest co-conference champions with Crookston and also as North Border co-conference champions along with Warroad. For the second consecutive year, the Rams were able to host a first-round section playoff game. It was also the second time in a row that they p...
Playoff action started for Section 8 AA on Thursday, March 8th, and the Roseau Rams found themselves as the 2nd seed in the north and would host a first round game. The Warroad Warriors were seeded 7th and that would mean these two teams would be paired up against each other. Now there aren't any big secrets that Coach Ken Hayden of the Rams and Coach Vichita Ounchith of the Warriors can hide from each other. These two rival teams play each other twice during the regular season and they have been coaching against each other now for 6 years. Sam...
WOW! If you had the opportunity a week ago Friday, 3/2, to attend the boys’ basketball game at Greenbush between the Rams and Gators and you weren't there, you missed two very entertaining games. The BGMR Gators JV team had a perfect season on the line as this would be both teams last regular season game. As I mentioned in last week’s article, The Swamp can get rockin' and make it overwhelming at times for the visiting team. This game was back and forth for the most part with a couple of runs here and there put together by both teams. When all...
I think for the past three weeks my articles have mentioned that the Rams basketball team split the last two games. I guess it's better than going 0-2 each week, but it also hurts when the one you lose is a conference game, as has been the case lately. The Rams would don the white uniforms on 2/22, as they would find themselves in the Pirates Cove in Crookston. The last time these two teams met was during the Christmas break at home, and Roseau would pull off a 17 point victory. Coach Hayden was hoping for the same outcome tonight, or at least...
I'm sure you've all heard the saying, “Save the best for last.” That holds true with the Super Saturday Showcase that was held at Northland College last Saturday, 2/17. The Eagles from East Grand Forks Sacred Heart and the Roseau Rams would play in the last game of the day, which had a start time of 8 p.m.. Unfortunately I was not in attendance of this game, but from looking at the stats, and hearing reports from others, this one was for the ages! The first half was played with many lead changes, with no one team having more than a 5 point lea...
If you weren't in the Roseau High School gym last Friday night, 2/9, you missed some very entertaining basketball games as the girls played perennial section 6A contenders, Ada-Borup, and the boys played section 8AA foe, East Grand Forks. Earlier in the season, the Greenwave sent the Rams home with a thrashing, but the Rams have been playing some pretty good ball lately and Coach Hayden would have his team prepared. The Rams would control the opening of the game as they would, have leads of 6-0 and 9-2. The Eastsiders would, find themselves...
The Roseau Rams basketball team got on the bus last Friday, 2/2, and traveled about as far east as Hwy 11 will take you, without driving into Rainy Lake. If you aren't into geography, that would be International Falls, to take on the Bronco's. When one hears of a match-up between Roseau and “The Falls,” you think hockey. There would be no skating going on in this contest. The sneakers (is that still in today's vocab?) would be laced up, and some good 'ol roundballin' would be played. This first few minutes of play would be back and forth unt...
It was a big double header night last Friday, 1/26, at good 'ol RHS where the boys and girls basketball team would play host to the Northern Freeze. This sports co-op combines the two schools of Tri- County (Karlstad area) and Marshall County Central (Newfolden area.) The very first game of the season, the boys team played the Freeze in Karlstad and came away with a 12 point win. Coach Hayden was hoping to put another W in the win column this evening on their home floor. Things started off well for the Rams as they scored first and upped the...
