  • NORTHERN FREEZE BLOWS INTO ROSEAU, RAMS TAME THE PONIES

    Gregg Iverson|Feb 3, 2018

It was a big double header night last Friday, 1/26, at good 'ol RHS where the boys and girls basketball team would play host to the Northern Freeze. This sports co-op combines the two schools of Tri- County (Karlstad area) and Marshall County Central (Newfolden area.) The very first game of the season, the boys team played the Freeze in Karlstad and came away with a 12 point win. Coach Hayden was hoping to put another W in the win column this evening on their home floor. Things started off well for the Rams as they scored first and upped the...

  • A Big 10-4 for the Boys Rams Basketball Team

    Gregg Iverson|Jan 27, 2018

The boys basketball team has a 10 and 4 overall record going for them right now, along with a 3-2 conference record, with a bunch of conference games coming up in the last half of the season. Last week the boys split a pair of games in the won/lost column. On 1/19 Roseau hosted the Bearcat’s from Kittson Central, a co-op of Hallock, Kennedy and Lancaster. Coach Hayden was hoping to avenge an earlier season loss at Lancaster. Roseau would get on the scoreboard first and would pretty much control the whole first half, with a lead as high as 10 a...

  • BOYS HOOPSTERS WIN TWO MORE, STAND AT 9-3

    Gregg Iverson|Jan 27, 2018

Old man winter flexed his muscles week before last and forced a lot of school cancellations, 2 hour delays and a pile of game postponements. Such was the Roseau vs Goodridge-Grygla, in Grygla. However, the game was quickly rescheduled for the following Monday, makeing another busy week for the boys. I'm not sure what the gym is called these days since the co-op took place with G-G, but I've always referred to it as The Eagle's Nest. It's always been a tough place to play for the Roseau boys it seems, with many games not going our way, or it's...

  • RAMS BOYS BASKETBALL SPLIT LAST TWO GAMES

    Gregg Iverson|Jan 13, 2018

It was a busy afternoon at the Roseau Community School last Saturday (1/6/18) as both the boys and girls team would host the Park Rapids Area Panthers. Park Rapids is in the south half of our section so this would be a very important game with the two teams being close in the standings with each other. The girls started off the afternoon with an impressive 70-50 win, as the Panthers were #2 in their half of the section. The boys game then followed, and unlike the girls, they would have a difficult time putting a game together. Only one time,...

  • BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FALLS TO EGF

    Gregg Iverson|Jan 6, 2018

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that all of you had a great Christmas season and New Years and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends both near and far. My wife and I were able to do just that and we enjoyed every minute of it! As you probably already read in last weeks article, there wasn't too much of a Christmas break for the boys in Hoopsville. They had back to back section 8 AA games against Crookston at home (reported on last week) and then the following day on 12/28 vs the East Grand Forks Greenwave in East Grand...

  • RAM CAGER'S IMPROVE TO 6-1 ON THE SEASON

    Gregg Iverson|Dec 30, 2017

The boys varsity basketball team has won their last four games and now sit at 6-1 on the season and 4- 0 in section play, with one more game and section match up to go, before the New Year. On 12/21, the Goodridge-Grygla/Gatzke Chargers came to town right before the Christmas break, to see if they could hand the Rams a lump of coal for the Holidays. The Chargers aren't necessarily in a re-building year, but they do have a new head coach, in Jesse Westbrock, and his players might still be in transition in learning his new system, this early...

  • RAMS BOYS DEFEAT TWO SECTION OPPONENTS

    Gregg Iverson|Dec 23, 2017

The boys basketball team had a very busy week last week with three games, one away and the last two back to back home games. The first game vs KCC I already reported on. The latter two were against not just section opponents, but our friendly rivals of Warroad to the east, and of BGMR to the west. Getting into the first game on 12/14 vs the Warroad Warriors. Coach Hayden had pointed out to me before game time, that Warroad has a good bunch of juniors on this years squad that have played together now for a few years. They have a few three point...

  • Boys Basketball Holds End of Season Awards Banquet

    Gregg Iverson|Apr 8, 2017

On Sunday evening, April 2nd, the Rams boys basketball team held their awards banquet. The host spot this year was at the Roseau Evangelical Covenant Church. A potluck meal was enjoyed by all, and then Coach Hayden had a few comments to make about this season. There were many highlights, this year... to name a few, after opening the season with a loss, they went on a 5-0 run, only to lose the next game in double OT. Then the next game was a home victory over Crookston. A team that the Rams...

  • BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM HOST 1ST ROUND PLAYOFF GAME

    Gregg Iverson|Mar 25, 2017

The Roseau Rams boys basketball team earned the 5th seed in section 8AA, which gave them the honor of hosting a first round playoff game in quite a few years. Coach Hayden and staff, deserve a lot of credit for bringing this program to the level it is at this year. There is still more work to do, but kudos to them and the players for a fine regular season that they had, going 16-10 and 8-3 in section play. So with the 5th seed, you get paired up against the 12th seed, and that would belong to the Warroad Warriors. A team that both are far too...

  • RAM CAGERS GO 3-2 IN LAST FIVE GAMES

    Gregg Iverson|Feb 4, 2017

It's been a couple of weeks since my last article so I have a few games to cover with this one. I wasn't able to get to most of them with some being away, so I'll be short and sweet with the first three games I'll be writing about. First off, the Rams headed east on Highway 11 over to Baudette, to take on the LOW Bears on 1/17. The strategy in playing the Bears, according to Coach Hayden, would be to contain senior, Jacob Fish. In reading the box scores it's not uncommon to see Fish in the 20's to sometimes 30 pt scoring nights. The strategy...
