  • Why are they doing terrible things to their bodies?

    Jeff Olsen|Jan 19, 2019

A new drug has hit the county. "It's a legal substance," said Garrett Berg, adding that it has detrimental health effects. Last week, Mr. Berg, sitting in a small, windowless room at the Roseau County Sheriff's Department with Chief Deputy Tobi Eidsmoe, was asked if he was an undercover drug agent and, perhaps, he didn't want to be identified. "Everybody knows me," he said. This is understandable. He looks like a younger version of Cheech Marin of Cheech & Chong fame. Except that he's armed and...

  • The Doggie dorm & Spa

    Laurel Latham|Jan 19, 2019

Before designing and building The Doggie Dorm & Spa, Lisa Byfuglien did her research. "I wanted to have the very best kennel possible," explained Lisa. "First I visited several dog kennels to see firsthand how others operated their kennel. I called and spoke with Jenine Bjerk who owned Red Woof Inn, east of Roseau, for many years and asked her advice. I spoke with the manager of Play & Stay Pet Resort in Grand Forks for nearly three hours, asking a lot of questions about what works and what...

In order to position the Company for future success, Shopko has announced that it will be closing an additional 38 stores, including the Warroad location, relocating over 20...

  • Crookston wrestlers defeat Rams, 36-28

    Jeff Olsen|Jan 19, 2019

A week ago Thursday evening at the RHS gymnasium, eighth grader Bodee Hovda showed great heart as he battled a tough opponent in Crookston's Ethan Bowman, a crafty matman who tried to turn a determined Bodee every way but loose before pinning him at the 4:52 mark of the third period. Once Bodee gets more experience on the varsity, he will be just fine. With Crookston winning on forfeit at 120, 126 and 132, the Pirates led 24-0 before the fans had choked on a single popcorn kernel. Then, it was...

  • Roseau Rams girls Varsity Basketball team victorious against Pequot Lakes and Bigfork on the road

    Tracy Borowicz|Jan 19, 2019

On Jan. 11 the Rams took to the road and traveled to Pequot Lakes to take on the Patriots. We knew the match would be intense as the Patriots’ Olivia Lane and Rams’ Kacie Borowicz will both be teammates next year at UND. The first half was pretty even, Olivia Lane was able to score 21 points in the first half and really put Pequot Lakes on her back. The Borowicz sisters were able to hit some shots and get some steals as the Rams headed into halftime leading 35-45. Katie made a last second 3 pointer to push the lead to 10. The Rams struggled a b...

  • NORTH HALF OF SECTION 8AA IS TIGHT, CAGERS PICK UP TWO MORE WINS!

    Gregg Iverson|Jan 19, 2019

East Grand Forks, Hawley and Roseau, all have 10-2 overall records, with EGF and Hawley both being 4-1 and Roseau 3-1 in section play. So as you can see, it's a pretty tight race with just about another month and a half left in the regular season. Reviewing the past two games played, Roseau traveled to Grygla to take on the Grygla-Goodridge Chargers on 1/10. Coach Hayden was hoping to have his team prepared in this game, looking to extend the Rams four game winning streak. Most always a basketball game starts off with the opening tip off,...

  • We need more color in our lives

    Jeff Olsen|Jan 19, 2019

It's unfortunate that you have to read the obituaries to learn someone's real name. In November, Chopper Edberg died, and I never knew his real name was Ordean Elroy Edberg. That is a classy name. I just knew him as Chopper, and in the late 1970s we worked at Marvin Windows in Stack and Strip for a year or so. I never asked him how he got the nickname of Chopper, but it fit him. He was just a cool dude. Anybody who grew up in the Forties and Fifties can remember the great nicknames our sports...

  • Willy rocks therapy and goes home!!

    Jan 19, 2019

It was Christmas again over the weekend. Christmas was with Kyle's family in Grand Forks. It was quite nice not having an emergency room visit in the middle of Christmas. A little side note, Kyle is back to his feisty self and Brandon's MRI turned out well also. 2019 is definitely off to a better start than the ending of 2018. I guess when you have some bad times the good times are that much better. Back to Christmas, we went to Grand Forks Saturday and celebrated. It was a fun time. While...
