  • When Harry Met jean

    Laurel Latham|Feb 10, 2018

Harry Pederson had no intention of getting married when he was discharged from the Army in the spring of 1948. Harry had been inducted into the Army in October 1946 and after basic training, was assigned to the 8th Army Division and saw action in the Pacific Theater of operation. He also served with the 209th Military Police Company, and as an automotive mechanic. Harry's citations for service included the World War II Medal, the Victory Medal and the Medal of Occupation-Japan. After a year in...

  • THE Flatlander from Roseau Soars High

    Jeff Olsen|Feb 10, 2018

Patrick Sandland, 28, who frequently watches moose browsing in his yard with mountains in the distance, is right at home out in the boonies. He's doing it his way. Less than three years ago, the 2008 Roseau High School alumnus was getting set to graduate from Northland Community and Technical College with a degree in Aviation Technology. That's when he threw caution to the wind and headed to the Far North. On Saturday, February 3, it was 10 above zero in Talkeetna, Alaska, and it was 10 below...

  • With Superficial Don, no dwarfs are allowed

    Jeff Olsen|Feb 10, 2018

I'll never dunk a basketball, leap higher than two feet off the ground or reach higher than six feet. And that's on a good day. I was never big on appearances, probably because there are pretty women who are not nice and there are athletes who would put you to sleep recounting their great feats. How do we judge a person? By their money, their beauty, and their physical traits? How about the good example that they set? That should mean the most. I like characters, whatever size, and I'm...

  • How do we know it's God Speaking?

    Pastor Joe|Feb 10, 2018

There are so many voices out there making appeals to us. Over the t.v. from the pulpit, at our front door, the collective voice of “peer pressure”, that little peeky voice appealing to our hearts” “Pleeeze, pleeeze, pleeeze, can we go to the Dairy Queen?” With that peeky voice and the Dairy Queen, God’s got to be in there somewhere. Right? Then there’s the boyfriend! Boyfriend? I heard this story from a friend of mine who knew the girl who was a professing Christian. If I remember right, so was the boyfriend. Anyway, after they had been dati...

Roseau - Clarice (Kelly) Christianson Falk was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on October 4, 1915 and grew up in Underwood, Minnesota. She loved school and graduated valedictorian of her class. Living through the Depression was one of the defining features of her life. She earned her way through the two year teacher's training at Moorhead State and became a supervisor of student teachers in the MS training school,...

  • Wrestling Rams win two of three in quadrangular

    Jeff Olsen|Feb 10, 2018

A week ago Friday at the Roseau Elementary School gym, one of the unsung heroes for the Rams was senior Hunter Ziska, who racked up two important pins. The outstanding team was the Pequot Lakes-Pine River-Backus, nicknamed the Road Crew and they just steamrolled the opposition, winning all three of their duals by a combined score of 193-35. Rams 41, Fergus Falls 21 Except for trailing 18-0 after the first three weights, the Rams came alive beginning at 126 when Race Knochenmus started the rally...

  • RAMS GO 2-0 LAST WEEK, SIT AT 13-5 OVERALL

    Gregg Iverson|Feb 10, 2018

The Roseau Rams basketball team got on the bus last Friday, 2/2, and traveled about as far east as Hwy 11 will take you, without driving into Rainy Lake. If you aren't into geography, that would be International Falls, to take on the Bronco's. When one hears of a match-up between Roseau and “The Falls,” you think hockey. There would be no skating going on in this contest. The sneakers (is that still in today's vocab?) would be laced up, and some good 'ol roundballin' would be played. This first few minutes of play would be back and forth unt...

  • Roseau Rams Varsity girls basketball team pick up 5 more wins to improve to 16-4

    Tracy Borowicz|Feb 10, 2018

The Rams were able to come out quickly and force many turnovers for the Freeze, which in turn gave the Rams easy baskets. The Rams had a commanding 37-15 lead towards the end of the first half and continued with their impressive defense to go into halftime with a 48-17 lead. The Rams still controlled the second half, but slowed things down a bit. The Rams beat the Freeze 75-35. The Rams shot a...
