Last Saturday, Keith Severson, a 2001 Roseau High School graduate, flew from Duluth International Airport to the Pinecreek Airport, a small rural airport near the Canadian border. Talk about roughing it. He piloted a Cirrus SR22, which is like being airborne in the Cadillac of smaller aircraft. It's definitely no puddle jumper with a retail price of approximately $800,000. One of the perks of being an employee of Cirrus is being able to fly their aircraft. At 35, Keith has a résumé that few c...
To the Editor, In response to Jim Jenson’s false allegations in last week’s Roseau Times-Region, I did not go with Todd Miller to visit with former Pennington County Attorney Rogalla. Check your facts, Jenson. I did not serve on the hiring committee for the Roseau County Homeland Security Emergency Management Director (HSEM); therefore, I did not have any influence regarding who was recommended to serve as the county’s current HSEM. At a March 2017 board meeting, I voted in favor of hiring Ms. Grafstrom. Check your facts, Jenson. Sheriff Steve...
To the Editor, It appears Jimmy Jensen has went off his medication again, truth and facts don't have a place in his world. The assertions Jenson makes in his letter to the editor last week are completely baseless and blatant lies. Sheriff Steve Gust and County Attorney Karen Foss initiated this Falk investigation, legal review and prosecution. A Grand Jury of Roseau county citizens indicted Falk. Not " Three Commissioners, a County Engineer and a Deputy Sheriff " as Jenson falsely asserts. The $ 18,000 cost of the Falk trial is a direct result...
To the Editor, PROCEEDINGS OF THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS May 28, 2013 “approved a contract with M & J Construction, Inc. for crushing and stockpiling of 40,000 cy aggregate, in the amount of $92,800.00.” = $2.32 per cubic yard….. And the county engineer thinks he can do it for less??? In the winter of 2016 it was under the recommendation of the County Engineer, Brian Ketring. The County Board of Commissioners were advised obviously without any thought process, to purchase a rock crusher and support equipment eventually costi...
"Beware of the Ides of March!" Always, I remember that because I had to read Shakespeare's Julius Caesar in the late 1950s in high school. It was difficult reading because the Brits had a strange way of talking back when Shakespeare penned this masterpiece. It was the fifteenth of March when Caesar got stabbed by the conspirators, one of whom was Brutus. What a helluva name! I love it. If my parents had named me Brutus, every kid in my Catholic grade would have taken his turn trying to kick my...
Over the years I have, on occasion, heard someone say concerning a relationship they had trouble accepting: “I don’t know what she (or he) sees in that person!” Whatever it was, the person making the statement didn’t see it. Maybe the person in the relationship didn’t see it either. Time would tell. What does God see in us, and does he want to share it with us? Maybe he already has. In Psalm 139, which I would highly recommend to all of you, David reflects on his (and our) God-worth. He begins, “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know ev...

On Tuesday afternoon, the Roseau High School Knowledge Bowl team exited the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls following a disappointing setback in the Regional Knowledge Bowl competition in which they just missed advancing to the state meet in April by half a point. There was little consolation for their close finish, which was hard to swallow for the five teammates who know all about "Close but no cigar!" Just two weeks earlier on February 27, they had won the Sub-Regional...
We get busy then lazy not the other way around. Most of us started out without any responsibility. Some of us had the responsibility, but never owned up to it, but that's a different story for a different day. It all starts in school as soon as we get “homework”. Then we add in sports or extracurricular activity. It doesn't matter what we do or switch our attention to, we always get busy then lazy not the other way around. Before we had children my wife and I had plenty of time for whatever we wanted to do. That is, of course, looking back on w...
On March 9, the Roseau Rams traveled to UMC Crookston to play in their 4th consecutive Section 8AA Championship Game. The Rams started out the game being aggressive going to the basket and found themselves up 12-6 early in the first half. The Rams then missed a few easy baskets and had a few turnovers and found themselves down 18-16 with 6 minutes. to go in the half. The Rams continued to out-hustle the Greenwave, but continued to miss easy shots and found themselves down 32-29 at halftime. The Rams talked it over during halftime and came out...
Playoff action started for Section 8 AA on Thursday, March 8th, and the Roseau Rams found themselves as the 2nd seed in the north and would host a first round game. The Warroad Warriors were seeded 7th and that would mean these two teams would be paired up against each other. Now there aren't any big secrets that Coach Ken Hayden of the Rams and Coach Vichita Ounchith of the Warriors can hide from each other. These two rival teams play each other twice during the regular season and they have been coaching against each other now for 6 years. Sam...
