  • Roseau is in a pickle because of fema

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 18, 2017

On Tuesday, Mayor Jeff Pelowski never slowed down for at least 10 minutes while he lambasted the predicament the City of Roseau is in because FEMA blew it when they updated the flood plain maps in 2012. "Five years ago, they didn't take into account the East Diversion Project," he said, about the project that was completed last summer to remove the City of Roseau from the 100-year flood plain. "So, the outcome of the new revised maps show more of the city in the flood plain than was on the 1980...

  • RHS wind ensemble is truly talented

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 18, 2017

On Monday, February 27, the Roseau High School Wind Ensemble competed in the Large Ensemble Contest at Warroad High School, earning the equivalent of a gold medal as they were awarded the highest rating. "The Large Ensemble Contest is like the band equivalent of the state tournament," said Lance Dubay, the RHS band director. Unfortunately, the Minnesota State High School League does not include Section 8 in the state competition. "They made a decision that our section is not able to advance, so...

  • Catching up with the big putt

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 18, 2017

Steve "Putt" Puttbrese has always had a presence. Sometimes, it was a menacing presence even if it was all an act. There were teachers who probably dreaded coming to school a generation ago. When Putt was spotted at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul in early March, it all came back - what a rough character he had been. "I was back then," he said and smiled. The 1986 Roseau High School graduate wrestled for the Rams and was the MVP his senior year, going undefeated in dual meets. And here he...

  • Another day to tiptoe through the tulips

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 18, 2017

Beautiful. I spent most of Monday morning in Roseau, drifting from place to place, walking part of the time because Kevin Johnson was fixing my car. How many joints can you walk into and get hugged like Donna Rose did when she spotted my distinctly homely mug in Nelson's Cafe? They don't do that in a big city unless it's an Italian or a Greek eatery and they think you just got off the boat. I'll never pass for an Italian. Or a Greek. And here I was getting a fantastic hug from Donna, who is a wa...

  • The Main Event

    Dave Peterson|Mar 18, 2017

This has been a very busy week to say the least. I want to start by sending my heartfelt condolences to all involved in the tragic house fire in Badger. All parties involved are overwhelmed by all that has happened. They are also grateful that they are part of a community that cares. I met with the owner and the renters and they have both lost more than the rest of us can imagine. Please continue to keep them in your prayers. On to this weeks musings……… So let me start off by saying, Never trust a Christain that doesn’t walk with a limp. W...

  • Roseau Rams Girls Basketball Team are section 8AA Champions and headed to the State Tournament for the third year in a row

    Tracy Borowicz|Mar 18, 2017

The Roseau Rams girls Basketball team had beat DGF to earn a spot in the section 8AA finals last Friday, March 10, against Staples-Motley. The Rams were a little rattled and within a few minutes into the game, the Rams found themselves down by 9. Staples-Motley were able to hit a few long shots early. A timeout was taken by Coach Didrikson and she was able to settle the team down as they slowly made their way back into the game. Sisters Kacie and Katie picked up their defensive intensity which created steals and easy baskets for the Rams....
