  • Meet the nicest people to win $22.8 Million

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 24, 2018

On the morning of March 15, Debbie Kujava just happened to check out the Lotto America tickets she'd bought at the Holiday Station in Roseau. From now on, the 1978 Roseau High School graduate is the luckiest gal in Roseau County. She won the $22.8 million Lotto America jackpot, but she said nothing for a few days about her winning ticket. That's just part of the story. On Tuesday morning, she was reached in St. Cloud, the day after her family's grand moment at the Minnesota Lottery...

  • Septuagenarian Steger Doesn't Stagger Along

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 24, 2018

Last Friday afternoon, Will Steger, a former collegiate wrestler and polar explorer who prefers to push the physical limits of even the most exceptionally fit human beings, was spotted at the Daisy Gardens Restaurant in Warroad. He looked ready to run a marathon. He is 73 and would shortly begin a solo challenge of traversing more than 1,000 miles in the Barren Lands up in northern Canada, a trip that began earlier this week in northern Saskatchewan at Black Lake. Steger, who lives in the...

  • Jesus and the Religious "Rock" Band

    Pastor Joe|Mar 24, 2018

Northwest of Seattle and not too far from the Olympic Mountains is a little town by the name of Sequim. The residents there will tell you that generally they have 360 days of sunshine each year. Pretty good for Western Washington. However, what has attracted Julie and myself more than once, is that just a short distance from town is an animal habitat park. In fact some of the Hollywood movie animals have been kept there. It’s a fun place to visit. Now, they have both a walking and a driving tour. We’ve done both. For the most fun it is wor...

  • There is a Treasure Among Us

    Mar 24, 2018

To the Editor, There is a treasure among us. From the 14th - 17th of March, 2018, I had the privilege and honor to chaperone and observe the Roseau Pep Band. All the members, comprising almost 80 students, were exceptionally courteous, extremely well mannered and attentive at all times to the many facilities visited and employees encountered. These actions are all attributed to the encouragement and instruction of Mr. Lance Dubay, the Roseau Band Director. Many venues were visited during this time frame and whether it was the hotel manager of...

  • Jim Jenson's response to Todd Miller and Glenda Phillipe

    Mar 24, 2018

To the Editor, Facts: When the majority of commissioners vote in favor of a highway dept. issue, no state statutes nor state department has the authority to challenge their decisions. "Only the voters can. From Jim: Hi, Stacie, Question: Have I been told the correct information, that "Only the voters can challenge their decision" "when a county board decision is made by the majority of commissioners, no state statutes nor state department has the authority to challenge their decisions, only the voters can". From Stacie: Hi Jim, The statement...

  • More response to Jim Jenson

    Mar 24, 2018

To the Editor, Jimmy Jensen, Badger’s Village Idiot, BVI for short, in his last letter puts out more of his lies and erroneous information. For years we've heard BVI screech about how old and inefficient the County crusher was. "That crusher was in use back when two cylinder John Deere tractors were used for farming," BVI would say. In 2015 the Board and Engineer held many discussions on crushing, ultimately deciding to keep crushing our own material and to upgrade the equipment. We also heard from several other Counties that wished they had k...

  • A wrestling friendship that will never die

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 24, 2018

There are no guarantees in life or in sports, and it makes a kid grow up faster - especially when a best buddy dies. That happened last August when Jon T. Dingwall Jr. a super kid, died in an ATV accident at age nine and left a huge void in everyone's life who knew the dynamic and personable boy. Jon Dingwall and Colbe Tappe had been workout partners and teammates in the West Central Area School District. When Jon died, Holly (née Przekwas, RHS Class of 2003) didn't know how her son would cope...

  • Workout of the Week - WOW #65

    Jed Kobernusz|Mar 24, 2018

The truth about change is scary because parts of you have to die before you can live. Death is a scary thing and as a child, I was taught not to fear death. However, with death comes loss and with loss comes sadness. Sadness is a required emotion in order to find joy and true happiness. The actions, emotions, and happenings of our daily life are known as a “Narrative” or story. What Story Are You Telling Yourself Every Day? When you let those parts of you die you have to mourn the loss, but only for a short time. Some people go their ent...

On March 14, the Rams played Tracy- Milroy-Balaton(who were unseeded, but with a 29-2 record). The Rams started the game out shaky, the Rams’ defense was not sharp and TMB were getting some easy baskets on the Rams as the Rams trailed 30-25 at halftime. Julia Braaten was able to come into the game in the first half and drain two 3-pointers for the Rams to give them a lift. With 13 minutes to go in the game, the R...

  • Ram Youth Wrestlers Compete at District Qualifier

    Jim Mack|Mar 24, 2018

Last weekend in Greenbush, 32 of our youth wrestlers competed in the NYWA District Qualifier. Wrestlers from across northern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota competed in the tournament. Roseau wrestlers faced strong competition, but fared well and left positive results on the mat. To have 31 wrestlers competing at this stage of the season is a great sign in the quality type of kids we have wrestling right now in the program. Winning District Championships at their respective weight classes were Declan Hodny, Broden Larson, Meryk Ullman, Cael...
