  • With the RHS Class of 2000 that rocks!

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 25, 2017

So you think it's a dog-eat-dog world, do you? Well, maybe you're right, but not this time. Meet Andy Erickson, 36, who has an amazing smile, a childlike innocence, and a love of sports. Next, meet his fellow alumni from the Roseau High School Class of 2000, who have gone their separate ways but united to make Andy's day. Andy never scored a touchdown, breezed down the ice to score for the Rams, or ever hit a home run. But he managed the boys basketball team, was a popular kid, and there is one...

  • Go ahead and smile about a life worthwhile

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 25, 2017

I never feel sad going to a funeral when the deceased was over 80, enjoyed a good stiff drink, had a much younger girlfriend, did amazing things, and still had all his marbles. Then we should say, "Let's celebrate. He had a good life!" Damn right, he did. Don't shed any tears. Just look at the obit pages and see them dying in their forties and younger. Every week in this newspaper, the obituaries are second only to the Court Report in readership. I first met Elaine Swenson in the 1970s when she...

  • BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM HOST 1ST ROUND PLAYOFF GAME

    Gregg Iverson|Mar 25, 2017

The Roseau Rams boys basketball team earned the 5th seed in section 8AA, which gave them the honor of hosting a first round playoff game in quite a few years. Coach Hayden and staff, deserve a lot of credit for bringing this program to the level it is at this year. There is still more work to do, but kudos to them and the players for a fine regular season that they had, going 16-10 and 8-3 in section play. So with the 5th seed, you get paired up against the 12th seed, and that would belong to the Warroad Warriors. A team that both are far too...

  • ROSEAU RAMS ARE CLASS 2AA STATE CHAMPIONS

    Tracy Borowicz|Mar 25, 2017

The Roseau Rams Girls Basketball Team headed back to state for the third time in a row and was looking to better their 4th and 3rd place finishes. The Rams’ quarterfinal game was against New Richland-H-E-G. The Rams had a few jitters in the first half and could not capitalize on opportunities on offense. The Rams were down 25-21 with 7 minutes to play in the first half. Roseau was ready to run, as they exploded to a 41-27 lead. The Rams entered halftime up 43-34. The Rams cruised the rest of the way, swelling the lead to as much as 28 midway th...

  • It was a Perfect Season of picturesque playmaking

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 25, 2017

by Jeff Olsen This was no Cinderella team in glass slippers. Far from it. They wore Nike tennis shoes and danced their way to Roseau's first ever Minnesota State Basketball Championship. It was some dance in Williams Arena (the old Barn) on the campus of the University of Minnesota last weekend. They were simply the belles of Class 2A basketball showing why they were Minnesota's top-ranked team. But winning the title was never guaranteed. That's why they play the game, and it's not in the bag...
