For two gentlemen who entered the military at the tail end of World War II, it was a trip of a lifetime. Last Sunday, Roseau's Bob Foley and Strathcona's Chrest Hamness flew out of Fargo to Washington, D.C. Each veteran had an escort - in this case Bob Foley's son, Robert, and Chrest's son, Chris. This past Tuesday morning, Robert Foley, Jr. recalled the welcome they received on their return flight to Fargo on Monday evening. It was 9 p.m. and the local Salvation Army Band had been there to gree...
Take it from RHS Assistant Principal Kelsey Johnson that good kids stand out. Mrs. Johnson is wrapping up her first year at Roseau High School and has been a fast learner. They come through her office like a stampede some days. She knows the scamps and the scholars, the truants and the perfect attendees, the rebels and the reliables. She knows a good alibi and a forged pass, the hard working students and the hardly working students. She picks the students to be recognized by the Times-Region, an...
by Marilyn Alexiuk, English 12, Mrs. Didrikson It was the second to last Sunday in September. The sky was gloomy and the air had lost its warmth a few days earlier. Frequent gusts of wind blew through my jacket no matter how tightly I wrapped it around myself. My mom and I were heading out of the house to run a few errands. I pushed the white screen door open against a particularly strong breeze, and a gray streak flew out of the bushes next to our house and under our 1995 Caprice Classic. I...
Credit to www.statepoint.net While we all know that minimalism is “in” right now, thanks to Japanese cleaning guru Marie Kondo and her “Tidying Up” show on Netflix, decluttering your whole house can feel daunting. Instead, start small with these tips for tackling the areas that tend to collect the most dirt and clutter. 1. Purge your refrigerator weekly. The day prior to garbage collection, clean out your fridge of all leftovers and expired foods, and wipe down the shelves to prevent stickiness and mold from leaking containers. Pro Tip: Li...
Always, the great state of Alabama - where a loaf of Wonderbread, a box of shotgun shells and the Confederate flag makes them good old boys - is again in the forefront of protecting womanhood in this country. They just passed a strict anti-abortion law that outlaws abortion even if the woman is raped. Let their daughters or wives get raped by a person of color or a Socialist, and they will promptly drive them to the nearest state that does provide abortions. Recently, a local woman and...
We will start with rumors. No, I did not buy the Warroad Pioneer. Yes, we will be covering Warroad as much as we can. Yes, the City of Warroad has named us their official paper. Yes, the Warroad Public School has named us their official paper. With that being said I hope it clears up the rumors. Unfortunately Warroad's 120 -year-old newspaper has closed. There is a lot of speculation why, but none of that matters because it is gone. It honestly saddens me, 120 years is a long time for any...
Now I'm fully aware that my articles are not read by most, if any, young people including seniors. But those of you reading this may know someone who is a graduating senior; perhaps someone in your own household, or maybe a grandchild. I would like to encourage you to share this article with them. Here in Roseau, our seniors are graduating this Sunday, May 26th. We'll be celebrating the seniors in our church Sunday morning. Graduation day. It's a big deal; at least it was for me. School was...

After a year of being a Daisy, I knew Girl Scouts was something I wanted to stick with," said Rachel. On May 9, at 6 pm, at Warroad Elementary, Rachel bridged from a Girl Scout to an Adult Scout Ambassador. Roseau County has not had a graduating Senior accomplish this in over 20 years. by Tracy Wensloff The Rams baseball 9 closed out a tough week on the road by traveling to DGF on Friday, May 17th for a double dip with the Rebels. On this Friday night, it was the tale of two games. In game 1 DGF was able to take advantage of 10 free passes to top the Rams 8-0. The Rams were able to turn the tables in game 2 by thumping DGF 9-1....

While it is always wise to conserve natural resources, the recent price of gasoline has made even the most wasteful people think twice. Whatever your motivation, here are some gas saving tips from the pros at the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Monitor tires. Under inflated tires or poorly aligned wheels waste fuel by forcing the engine to work harder. (Let the tires cool down before checking the air pressure.) Out-of-line wheels, as evidenced by uneven tread wear, should be aligned by a professional. Remove excess...
