Sasha Magnusson, daughter of Richard and Kathy of Roseau, spent a little over five months of her senior year in Denmark. When Sasha learned of the A.S.S.E Exchange Program she was ready to see where this adventure would take her. She loves new experiences and to travel, so this was a dream come true. She had her sights on Denmark because her dad previously had a couple exchange students from Denmark. "They were always happy and very nice, and Denmark looked like a gorgeous place, Sasha said....
It isn't a town; it's an experience. There's just one stop and go joint with gas and beer and bread and other sundries. They're dead now, these Skime legends, any number of interesting blokes who both shocked and titillated society dames, schoolmarms, Baptists in general, city slickers, and the dutiful chaps who went right home after work because they were ordered to. They were free spirits and generally quite fond of the spirits, especially strongly fermented ones. During the Prohibition...
Caroline Allard, a Canadian lass and an engineer at Polaris in Roseau, wished she'd had one more tool in her toolbox when a pit bull attacked her pooch on Monday, May 20. "My dog, Pelly, is six and weighs about 40 pounds and is my full-time companion," she said this past Monday evening, adding that Pelly is a medium-sized Husky breed from the Arctic. "I was in my garage on Monday, May 20, and I live at the Roseau Court Townhomes," she said. "I was looking over my truck as my neighbors were...
by Jodi Ostroski, English 12, Mrs. Didrikson I have two little neighbor boys, Axel and Knox, who live about half a football field away from me. They are over a lot in the summer because Jared who is 15 and me (Jodi) who is 16 are the closest neighbors they have to play with. Axel is five years old and Knox is four years old. They are an abundance of energy, and both a handful at times. It was a nice June day in 2017, a slight breeze to keep us cool, but warm enough for shorts and a tank top. I...

My wife and I had the privilege of attending the Roseau School kindergarten graduation recently. Can you imagine that? Kindergarteners graduating? They even had the caps, and each child had been dressed special by their parents for the occasion. I noticed that a few of the little girls even had high heels (of sorts). Also there was a large audience cheering them on. The children provided great music fit for the occasion for which we all applauded enthusiastically. And yes, each one stepped...
Representative Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, issued the following statement regarding a lawsuit filed Wednesday seeking to overturn Minnesota's pro-life laws, many of which were passed with bipartisan support and have been in law for years. "This lawsuit, supported by groups who advocate for the appalling practice of late-term abortion, is an attack on bipartisan, commonsense laws that ensure women seeking abortions are fully informed,” Fabian said. “Attorney General Keith Ellison is responsible for defending the laws of the state, and I expect him...
The other night, it all came to me in a dream sequence. Down the stairs he came in his gold-plated pajamas one fine morning and little Donald stormed into the kitchen and declared to the family's cook, "Trump wants his eggs over easy right now or you're fired. Get a move on it, you big Dummy!" Naturally, he should have been rapped soundly on his thick noggin because the year was 1950 and nobody put up with crap from bossy brats. Here's what I do know. He was only four-years-old and already...
It was a normal day at work and I was checking emails. Everything was going well and I was getting things to their appropriate places when I see "Pit Bull Attack" (It is a story on the front page). What!?! Instantly the mama bear in me came out! I was infuriated and my protectiveness came out. If you know me at all you will know I LOVE ANIMALS, especially my fur babies. I really just care about ALL animals. Sarah will tell you how on our road trips I might freak out just a little if a bird comes...

There's nothing that pisses me off more than mean people. Each time I have someone new come to my YGT Fitness Group Personal Training Class I always tell them that they can either be nice or go home. Nobody's got time for a crappy attitude and a salty outlook on life. However, sometimes all it takes is an interruption to shake off that salty outlook. My suggestions for that interruption would be to come in and get your sweat on because your first class is free. Not everyone is within the vicinity of the town that the YGT Fitness Group Personal...

by Donn Haugen If this week’s weather didn’t mimic last week's, then I'm not sure what would have, but then again I am no John Wheeler. Scoring wasn’t easy this week as the greens were plugged last Thursday to give us the best greens in northern Minnesota. Alex Halstensgard says they should be in shape next week. As for the Front Nine, this week's low gross was taken by Will Czeh, who has had a couple of good weeks. But being the student of the game as he is, it comes as no real surprise. Yours Truly (Donn Haugen) took home low net on the f...

Starting outside row one, Teunis built about a half straightaway lead over the rest of the pack and never looked back, as the race ran caution free and Teunis would go on to pick up his first ever Modified win at the Race Park.
