  • En Liten Svensk Shoppe Celebrates Scandinavian Traditions

    Laurel Latham|Jun 9, 2018

"Every day is like a mini-reunion since En Liten Svensk (A Little Swedish) Shoppe opened on May 18th," exclaimed Sarah Meisinger. "I haven't lived in the Roseau area in twenty-seven years and I don't get up to visit as often as I would like to, so it's been wonderful to have so many friends stop in." Sarah Meisinger, a Clinical Social Worker at St. Cloud State University, is obviously very excited to be sharing a space at Bead Gypsy with Rebecca Rosenkrans, who also happens to be her mother....

  • Not even Las Vegas can top these sporting odds

    Jeff Olsen|Jun 9, 2018

Former Roseau resident Alex Bjerk, 29, couldn't have scripted a better scenario. Twice, the veteran amateur goalie didn't get the starting nod in two of the biggest sporting events in high school and college. That was then and this is now. He's out in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the biggest game in town isn't at the Golden Nugget or at Caesars Palace. It's at T-Mobile Arena. Bjerk, a 2007 Roseau High School graduate and 2013 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire graduate, possibly wouldn't take all...

  • Hats off to the Guatemalans, who trump everyone

    Jeff Olsen|Jun 9, 2018

My father, who was born in Badger, Minnesota, in 1900, wasn't fond of the Japanese, Italians, and Germans. He only said "Japs" when I was a kid. Blame that on World War II, even though he never served a single day in the military. Pop had his prejudices. My mother never once said a derogatory word about any minority, probably because she had been the daughter of German-speaking immigrants, who were considered the bottom of the barrel in the early Twentieth Century in Minneapolis. Her parents...

  • What's the Big Deal about the Bible? Part 2

    Pastor Joe|Jun 9, 2018

It seams to me that there are 3 primary responses to the Bible: (1) Those who are committed to it as “the Word of God.” The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 119: 105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.” (2) Those who criticize It or at least reduce it to the same level as other religious reference books, and (3) Those who simply ignore it or patronize it. Now if the apostle Paul was correct as I quoted him in Part I of this series, “All Scripture is inspired by God….” then those holding the second two positions put themselves at...

  • Golfer Gina Wensloff is headed to state

    Jeff Olsen|Jun 9, 2018

It was a fine finish for Ram senior Gina Wensloff, who had two great rounds this past Monday and Tuesday at the Section 8AA Girls Golf Championship at the Bemidji Town & Country Club. On Monday, Ms. Wensloff suffered only one burp in an otherwise sensational round with a triple bogey on the 18th hole to shoot 82 for 6th place. However, on Tuesday, "Ms. Meal Ticket" was having nothing to do with not breaking 80 as she shot 78 for a 36-hole score of 160, which tied her for 4th overall. It will be...
