  • Lake of the Woods Reel Fishing Adventures

    Jodi Wojciechowski|Jun 22, 2019

TJ Huerd decided to take his passion to the next level and open his own guide service, Lake of the Woods Reel Fishing Adventures. TJ found his passion for fishing at a very young age. "My dad took me fishing when I was just a kid, around 4 or 5 years old," he said. As he grew older he would skip their family Christmases to go out ice fishing. He jumped at any chance he could to be out on the lake, as it was his favorite thing to do. Even at a young age he seemed to be a professional fisherman.... Full story

  • WRITE ON! A Rainy Day in Paris

    Jun 22, 2019

by Ella Helgeson, English 12, Mrs. Didrikson It was the summer of 2017. My Californian cousin, Kylie, and I were deciding on what to wear for another beautiful, sunny day in Paris, or what we thought was going to be. But just to be safe, we packed an umbrella in our backpacks. Boy are we glad that we did. After deciding on a pair of black jeans and white crochet tank top, we left our little villa and headed to the City of Love. Not knowing what our day would hold, we decided to stop and get a... Full story

  • WHICH CAME FIRST?

    Pastor Joe Elick|Jun 22, 2019

Recently I was standing at the "express lane" counter at SuperOne to have a few of the sustenance's of life checked through by my friend, Taylor Warne, who always treats us customers as if each of us was the reason he came to work that day. Thanks, Taylor! Eyeing my groceries, he asked, "Did you get everything," "I hope so," is my usual response (of course, I always forget something). "Let's see, he said, "chicken, eggs...I wonder which came first," he muses, "the chicken or the egg?" Have you... Full story

  • Meet the Renaissance Man of Pencer

    Jeff Olsen|Jun 22, 2019

Forget all those fancy places where the yards look manicured, nothing is out of place, and you're afraid to pee on a tree. Here's a nice contrast. Nothing beats hanging around an old sawmill with piles of sawdust, slabs, 4X4 tamarack posts and rough lumber stacked high. You build a place with rough lumber and you've got something solid, and you have the slivers to show for it. Out in the Pencer area, I was waiting for Arnold Kaml to finish lunch and head back out to his sawmill. I needed some...

  • Broken ankles and disappearing dogs

    Jun 22, 2019

“On My Mind”, is quite the loaded statement this week. It’s probably best I don’t share everything that is on my mind today. It has been quite eventful lately such as Brandon breaking his ankle Friday night. He hurt it when he first arrived home for the summer and it was getting better. Friday night/Saturday morning he was goofing around with the boys and re-injured it. It was a trip to ER in the middle of the night where he found out it was broken. He did quite well through the weekend and Mond... Full story
