Meryk Ullman, a Roseau kindergartner who qualified to the Minnesota NYWA State Tournament in Rochester by placing third at the NYWA Regions in Bemidji on March 24 in the 50-pound weight division, came charging into the winner's circle at the Mayo Civic Center on the weekend of April 7-8.

Little Meryk, who has mastered the cradle move while also being tough on his feet and a scrappy competitor, competed in a 16-man bracket that saw him winning four straight matches for the title.
