Minnesota Reading and math tutors making a difference

Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps are looking for a few hundred more openings for tutors throughout the state.

"One in three third graders struggle with reading proficiency and nearly one-half of Minnesota eighth grade students aren't meeting proficiency levels in math," explained Jennifer Breding, recruiter for Minnesota Reading and Math Corps. "Students who are not reading well by third grade are four times more likely to drop out before receiving their high school diploma. Eleven percent of sixth grade students who fail math will not earn their high school diploma."
