Ron Woolever was never McGruff the Crime Dog, but the former Crookston native who's resided in Roseau for the past 20 years took a big bite out of illicit narcotics during his 20 years with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

There were twists in his life, what he calls forks in the road, which led to his career in law enforcement.

On Monday, he was only 54, not exactly an elderly man. Instead, he's like that major league baseball pitcher, who at 36, feels he's losing his fastball.

Woolever, who can be gruff and gentle, hard-nosed and honest, will always be a lawman even if he walked...
