They never dug any foxholes, charged up steep hills against hostile fire or landed on beaches under heavy enemy fire.

But they lived through it.

Marlis (nee Carlson) Glennen never wore a military uniform but, in the latter part of World War II, she fought her own battles.

Not with guns or bombs but with brave determination. She is 86 and remembers the heartaches and tragedies that war brings to families.

This is her tribute, too.
