There were no complaints from the player or the coach following the Class 2A MSHSL Golf Tournament at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan on Wednesday.

"Gus was 20th, which is a real good showing," said coach Mike Lundbohm, noting that Gus was 8th after the first day with 75 and was right in the top ten position range until the last couple of holes on Wednesday.

"He played well on a good golf course. If you're 20th out of 88 kids who are some of the best, that's pretty darn good."

Coach Lundbohm was impressed with the young man's demeanor on the links.

"He's really playing good right now. It looks like he might have a chance to play some college golf," he said. "His finish to win the section, which is pretty special, and then to be contending down at state for most of the tournament, that's pretty darn good."

Lundbohm added that Gus had competed both days against some top-notch competition.

"I think he realizes that he is right with the best players in the state when he's playing like he is playing now. He really showed a lot of maturity at the end," he said. "We had a really good finish, and it adds credibility back to our golf program to get a kid down there and do well."

The 2019 RHS graduate shot 75 on Tuesday, just three shots over par.

"I shot 82 today," he said on Wednesday following the completion of his round.

He had his fans present, including his family.

Did you get nervous, Mary?

"Oh, a little bit," she said. "Yesterday was a little more relaxed because he was playing really well, even though it was raining," she said. "Today, it was a little bit windy. He shot really well, I thought, but he didn't look like he had the same confidence today as he did yesterday."

Mother knows best.

Golf can be a frustrating game.

"He looked really good today though too," she said, and then was asked when he first started playing golf.

"Probably when he was four," she said.

The young man is a natural.
