The World Ploughing Organization considered numerous U.S. locations for the 2019 World Ploughing Championship competition, last held in the U.S. in 1988.

"We went after the bid to hold the World Ploughing competition in our area two years ago, knowing it was a once in 30 year opportunity," explained Joe Henry, Lake of the Woods Tourism director.
