Alfred William Hangsleben, 90

Warroad- Alfred William Hangsleben passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at the LifeCare Medical Center at the age of 90.

Alfred was born on June 17, 1929 in East Grand Forks, to Augusta (Keopiska) and William Hangsleben. He grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks. He worked in a potato warehouse in Grand Forks, before moving to Warroad, to work on a potato farm for Jeff Baldwin. On November 8, 1952, he and Vivian (Pommering) were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. They lived in EGF for a few years, before moving to Swift to farm and raise their five children. He farmed beef cattle, dairy cattle and sheep in Moranville Township.

Alfred enjoyed his work on the farm and spending time outdoors. He loved hunting! In his later years he took up woodworking. He will be remembered for his hard-working hands. He was a very giving and kind person who always tried to help others. He loved his family very much.


He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Warroad; children, Alan (Carmela) of Lothian, Md., Janeen Cypher of Warroad, Jerry (Marilynn) of Owings, Md. Chris (Darla) of Oaks, N.D. and Alison Pomplun of Warroad; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Walt, Elsie, Earl, Ardel, Gus, Ralph, Lorraine, Ernie, Oscar and infant William.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
