Badger High School Nominates Two Students for ExCEL Award

Badger High School is pleased to announce the nomination of two juniors, Alyssa Rinde and Avdyl Jasiqi, for the Minnesota State High School League’s ExCEL award. The ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) is a program designed to recognize high school juniors who are active as volunteers in their communities, hold leadership positions within their school, participate in MSHSL sponsored activities, and perform well academically.

In January, an independent panel of judges will review applications from throughout Minnesota to select this year’s ExCEL Award recipients. Statewide winners of the 24th annual ExCEL Award will be announced on the MSHSL website on February 3, 2020 and recognized on television during the winter sports tournament season.

Avdyl Jasiqi has earned academic letters for consistently being on the “A” honor roll, and was recently inducted to the Badger High School chapter of the National Honor Society. He is active in golf, Knowledge Bowl, and Envirothon. As the lead programmer of the Badger High School FIRST Robotics team, he helped his team win the Minnesota State High School League Robotics Championship in 2019 and advance to world competition. He has volunteered his time working with younger students in an after school robotics program, at the local food shelf, blood drives, and helping sandbag in the area. Avdyl is the son of Besfort and Gjevahire Jasiqi of Badger.

An “A” honor roll student, Alyssa Rinde’s activities include band, golf, basketball, volleyball, and National Honor Society. As a member of the Gator Golf team, she has earned varsity letters and helped her team win two consecutive section golf titles and advance to the 2018 and 2019 state golf tournaments. Alyssa has earned several academic letters for her work in the classroom, as well as letters and team awards in basketball and volleyball. She currently serves as her class president, previously served on the student council, and has volunteered her time with church and community activities. Alyssa is the daughter of Kara Rinde and Paul Novotny of Badger.

According to Superintendent Kevin Ricke, “Badger Community School is proud to announce the selection of Alyssa Rinde and Avdyl Jasiqi as ExCEL Award nominees.  Alyssa and Avdyl are involved in multiple activities and perform at a high academic level.  Both students have a spirit of gratitude and heart for service.  They are both positive ambassadors of what Badger and the ExCEL award exemplifies.”

Badger Dean of Students Stacey Warne commented, “We are honored to recognize Avdyl and Alyssa for the exemplary leadership and service they bring to our school and community. We wish them well in the MSHSL ExCEL state competition.”
