The Roseau Rams boys’ basketball team hosted their archrivals, Warroad Warriors, on 12/12/19.

On paper, Roseau matches up very well against Warroad, with neither team being that big. Sometimes you can just ball up that paper and throw it in the garbage. Roseau just had one of those games where not much of anything went right. Field goal, three point and free throw percentages were way down, shooting an effective FG percentage of 25%. One stat that stood out with me were the turnovers. Each team had 21, with the Rams only getting 6 points off turnovers, whereas the Warriors had 23. That pretty much sums up the game. Warroad had a 20-point lead at the half 35-15. The Rams did manage to hang with the Warriors in the second half, with each team putting up 18 points. Final score was Roseau 33, Warroad 53. Leading scorers for the Rams were, Jace Hulst 9 and Dave Nelson 8.

Next up for the Rams was the East Grand Forks Green Wave. This game was also at home, played on 12/17/19. East Side is one of the teams that has a legitimate chance of coming out on top in the north half of section 8AA. The Green Wave, right from the opening tip, played relentless defense and a very up-tempo game, although it was in Coach Hayden’s plan to slow things down, EGF wasn’t having anything to do with that style. All five timeouts were exhausted in the first half by the Rams and it still didn’t change any momentum or the way things were rolling for the Green Wave. At the half EGF would have a sizeable 30 point lead, 49-19. Coach Perkerwicz called off the dogs somewhat in the second half as the scoring was a more respectable 35-30 in East Side’s favor. Too many turnovers, and not taking advantage of second chance points, were the biggest cause of this game’s loss. When the final buzzer blew, it was EGF 84 Roseau 49. Leading scorers for Roseau were Dave Nelson 14; Jace Hulst 11 and Jed Dunham 10.

Up next for the Rams will be the Northern Freeze in Karlstad on 12/20 and during the Holidays, Roseau will be hosting Crookston on 12/27 for an afternoon game. Until next week, have a very Blessed Christmas and support all Ram activities… it’s the best ticket in town!
