Kate Howell of Badger was awarded the annual Greenbush-Badger Lions Club Scholarship. Kate graduated from Badger High School in 2014.

2015 Knights of Columbus Council Level Free Throw contest winners were McKenzie Cole, Ben LePard, Eily Restad, Jeron Hulst, Katie Borowicz, Beau Keagle, Faith Restad, David Nelson, Emma Waling, Jace Hulst, Victoria Johnson and Nathan O’Connor.

The Ram boys pucksters defeated the Thief River Falls pucksters 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Bryden Stoskopf in overtime.

10 years ago – Feb. 6, 2010

Tara Whitlock was the Roseau Spelling Bee champion. Aaron Krahn was runner-up and Jared Orgon placed third.

Roseau Elementary Students of the Month for December were Kaitlyn Hulst, Hayley Ostby, Kody Loken, Brett Erickson, Madi Schoephoerster and Macayla Olson.

Marvin Otto was celebrating his 80th birthday at the Four Seasons Center in Roseau on February 11.

The Roseau Ram boys hockey team defeated Warroad 7-3. Roseau goals were scored by Taylor Hedlund (2), Kevin Erickson, Travis Connell, Shane Omdahl, Chase Broten and Josh Erickson.

25 years ago – Feb. 10, 1995

Roseau elected to bring 80-100 multi-county apartment units into the community.

Trent and Donna Bazey announced the birth of a daughter, Tori Marie, born on February 6 at the Roseau Area Hospital.

Forrest Johnson was the new parts and service manager for Westside Mr. Tire.

Evelyn Billberg was the new president of the Roseau Garden Club. Vice-president was Anne Oie and Carol Holland was secretary-treasurer.

The Roseau Ram hockey team lost to International Falls 3-4 in overtime. Roseau goals were all scored by Robert Moser.

40 years ago – Feb. 7, 1980

A Cessna 180 piloted by Roland Klamar of Gatzke landed safely in Thief River Falls although the landing gear was broken and a ski flopping. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Klamar and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Klamar of Gatzke were on board the plane.

Karolyn Erickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Erickson of Badger, was a finalist in the Ag-Arama contest at the University of Minnesota Technical College-Crookston.

Tara Abrahamson of Wannaska celebrated her 6th birthday on January 28.

The U.S. Olympic team, skating three Roseau County players, defeated the Warroad Lakers 10-0 in the Warroad Arena. Neal Broten, Dave Christian and Aaron Broten skated for the U.S. Olympic team.

The Ram hockey team defeated Bemidji 2-1. Roseau goals were scored by Steve Storo and Mark Huglen.

Roseau Senior High School students, Danielle Michal, Lisa Geroy and Colleen Carlson, won superior ratings in FHA competition at the District level.

Jeff Erickson, son of Mr and Mrs. Art B. Erickson of Roseau, was wrestling at the University of MN-Crookston in the 150 pound class.

50 years ago – Feb. 5, 1970

Bill and Maggie Adams left for a European vacation. They were to travel to Portugal, Spain, France and Italy.

New members of the Roseau Civic and Commerce Board of Directors were Eldor Larson, Agnes Stoe, Leslie Mattson and Channing Peterson.

Polaris drivers topped the Winnipeg-St. Paul “500”. LeRoy Lindblad placed first, Greg Grahn placed second, Bob Eastman placed third, Larry Rugland finished 6th and Jerry Reese 7th.

Deputy Sheriff Don Larson assumed new duties in a partnership with Belmer Thompson at Greenbush at the auto agency now known as Thompson-Larson Chevrolet.

Dawn M. Tangen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Tangen of Roseau, was graduating on Feb. 14 from the North Dakota State School of Science practical nursing department.

The U.S. National hockey team was playing the Warroad Lakers on February 12 at the brand new, colorful Thief River Falls arena. Don Ross, Bryan Grand and Larry Stordahl of Roseau were playing for the U.S. team.

Mr and Mrs. Dennis Kofstad of Roseau announced the birth of a daughter, Tanya Lee, born on January 31.

75 years ago – Feb. 8, 1945

A fine Christian life was brought to a close on February 3 when Mrs. Martha Amundson of Spruce closed her eyes in her last long sleep.

Conrad Hegstad returned and was now in his civies after serving three years in the Merchant Marine.

Three brothers, sons on Mrs. Mary Durgin of Badger, had been wounded in action and were awarded the Purple Heart. The brothers were Pvt. Guy Durgin, Pvt. Vernal Durgin and SSG. Isaac H. Durgin.

Miss Lois Elaine Odegaard and Ardell A. Markstrom were united in matrimony.

Jesse Nelson of Ross was judged as having the best weasel skin in the Sears, Roebuck Company’s fur contest last month.

The Roseau All-Stars defeated the Badger high school basketball team by the score of 32-28 in overtime. Playing for Roseau were Lenan Nyland, Jack Jensen, Harvey Johnson, Harlan Hams and Curtis Skrutvold.

Trying their hand at ice fishing at Wheelers Point were Henning Backlund, Paul Klema, Wm. Baumgartner and August Borque.
