Roseau 10UB split home weekend with Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids/Greenway 10UB came to town for a pair of games on Saturday, which made for some fun hockey for two pretty evenly matched teams.  The first game was a tight defensive battle, with both teams locking down chances and both goalies making nice saves when called upon.  Halfway through the 3rd period, Rapids finally solved Eliana Mast on an in-close shot.  A second goal would come shortly thereafter on an odd bounce in front.  Despite a last minute offensive push, the girls couldn't find the back of the net and lost 0-2.

A few hours later, the same two teams squared off, and picked up right where they left off with a 0-0 tie after 1.  In the second period, however, Roseau figured out how to score.  Brekka Lang started off the scoring on a breakaway.  Brooklyn Kline scored two gritty goals in front of the net, one off a 2-on-1 and the other off a strong forecheck.  Britta Bunke notched two assists including a pass back to Ava Mast who moved it to her sister Eliana in front for her first goal of the year.  The girls took a 4-1 lead going into the third.  Grand Rapids/Greenway scored quickly in the 3rd, and started to show a little push back.  Martine Reese added some insurance by finishing off a rebound shot. GRG pushed strong in the last 2 minutes with the goalie out, but goaltender Ainsley Eidsmoe held on for the 5-3 victory.  It was quite fitting for a 1-1 weekend for both teams.  The girls will wrap up the regular season next week with a couple pairs of double headers against Moorhead and Fort Frances.
