They never saw it coming, a tragedy in the making - not a car accident, but a near drowning one mile north of Strathcona.

It was just after 5 p.m. on Monday, March 30, and nothing beats running along a ditch pretending the ice chunks flowing by are fish.

Andy and Heidi Pulk's five-year-old twins, Henry and John, full of life, were running along towards a big culvert a little more than an eighth of a mile from their farmhouse.

For a while, the boys were accompanied by their sisters - Madi (8) and Emily (7). All were having a blast running along the ditch on County Road 6.
