Roseau Lake Rehabilitation Project

 


My grandfather came to Roseau County in a covered wagon with his parents in 1890. They started clearing the land and farming with oxen. This became the farmland that is now called The Island. This farmland has been in my family for 130 years. My grandfather was part of the crew that dug the cutoff channel to make this an island. The Roseau River Watershed District (Watershed District) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) now want to use eminent domain or force water easement to take this land from our family and many others. They plan on flooding it and calling it the Roseau Lake....
