A week ago Friday, Alex Halstensgard, a 2014 Roseau High School graduate, made a stunning announcement after being contacted on the status of Oakcrest Golf Course under his direction as the superintendent of the grounds crew.

"I'm going ask my girlfriend to be my wife tonight, and I'm going to do it at the golf course," he said.

Is it a nice ring?

"I think so. Hopefully, Ericka likes it."

Aren't diamonds a girl's best friend, or so the saying goes?

Ericka Beito, also 24, is an engineer at Houston Engineering in Thief River Falls.
