The Official Ballot Drop Box stands on the sidewalk just outside the Roseau County Courthouse, an unmovable object unless it is rammed by a bulldozer.

"We empty it usually twice a day," said Roseau County Auditor-Recorder Martie Monsrud, who then explained the ritual upon examining the outer envelopes of mail ballots.

"We look at the signature envelope to make sure that it is the voter who has signed it, and then we accept it."

She explained that if a mail ballot is rejected, it is rejected because the voter probably didn't sign it.
