I was drafted into military service and sent to Fort Snelling, Minn. I was inducted into the U.S. Army Infantry on January 1, 1945. I was then sent to Camp Fanning, Texas for basic training. After basic I had a furlough to come home for a short time. After my furlough I was sent to Fort Mead, Maryland headed for overseas until they realized that I was too young for overseas duty. I went back to Texas for eight more weeks of training, then was sent by troop train to San Francisco, California.
