James LaChappelle and Bernie each lived on farms by the hill going to Warroad. A gentleman brought them to the fair with their animals. James had a calf and Bernie a pig. There wasn’t housing but the barns except a pile of hay. They slept in the hay until it rained- so then they slept in the barn with their animals. They had brought sandwiches from home and were there 3 days. He remembers receiving $2.65 as a prize from the fair for showing his pig.
