Roseau County will enact half-cent sales tax in 2022

Once again, Benjamin Franklin's quote, "Nothing is certain except death and taxes," hasn’t skipped a beat.

On Tuesday, at the Roseau County Board meeting, the Commissioners approved the Local Option Sales Tax, effective this January.

It did not pass unanimously.

"It passed 4 to 1. Daryl Wicklund, our chair, was opposed," said fellow Commissioner Jack Swanson, adding that the new local sales tax goes into effect on January 1, 2022.

He noted that he more easily understands the half-cent sales tax as a nickel on every $10 purchase.
