Allen "Al" Brandt, 62, a man with unique talents who, in his younger years, threw up steel buildings for Sand Steel, was a Polaris test driver and milked cows with his dad, Edson, knew that he didn't want to take over the milking business someday.

He and his wife, Cindy, opened their store kitty-corner to the Guest House in 1991.

He sold it to Cheri Losse in May 2002, just over a month before the historic Roseau flood.

"My wife kind of ran the store, and I did the printing out here," he said a week ago Wednesday from the workshop at his Malung residence.
