Warroad- Marlys Ileen Hall was born to Earl and Beryl (Fuller) Hall, the seventh child of nine. She was born at home in Swift on a cold winter day; she always said she hadn't warmed up since! She grew up in Swift on a small farm. She graduated from Warroad High School.

Marlys and LaVerne Earl Ellenson were married October 1956 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. They lived in the Warroad area and raised four daughters.
