Burt Bassett of Roseau was inducted into the Snowmobile Hall of Fame, located in St. Germain, Wisconsin, the weekend of February 18.

Named to the Roseau 12th grade 2nd quarter Straight A Honor Roll were Madison Lee, Sidney Stoltenberg, MacKenzie Bergstrom, Trevor McMillin, William Woolever and Adam Hedlund.

Celebrating their February birthdays at the Four Season’s Senior Center were Lloyd Frosaker, Bev Dahl, Joann Wensloff, Vivian Peterson, Clifford Holm and Esther Olson.

Roseau wrestlers Chandler Mooney and Blake Skogstad advanced to the State Tournament.

Roseau Ram girls hockey team members Lindsey Santl, Jenna Byfuglien and Ellice Murphy were named to the All-Section 8AA Girls Hockey Team.

The Roseau Ram boys hockey team fell to the Moorhead Spuds 4-0 in the Section 8AA finals. The Rams ended their season with a record of 18-10.

10 years ago – Mar. 3, 2012

Winners at the 15th Annual Wannaska Lions Fishing Derby at Hayes Lake State Park were Andrew Loken- Northern division, Shawn Wulff- Panfish category and Stephen Swat- Crappie category.

Carter and Deidre Diesen of Wannaska announced the birth of a daughter, Kynsie Anne Diesen, born on February 2. Grandparents are Gary and Diane Tweten of Wannaska and Orlin and Sharon Diesen of Wannaska. Proud great-grandparents are Ole and Helen Kompelien, Cora Bergstrom and Violet Diesen, all of Roseau.

Named to the first team All-State at the Girl’s State Hockey Tournament was Kayla Gardner of Warroad while Lisa Marvin made the second team. Warroad’s Lynn Astrup, Hannah Johnson and Dayton Hilgert were Honorable Mention players. The Roseau Rams Honorable Mention players were Adele Murphy and Kaitlyn Byfuglien.

The Warroad Area Golf Association, Inc. announced that the day-today operations at the Warroad Estates Golf Course would be run by the husband and wife team of Nolan and Jana Thompson.

25 years ago – Mar. 3, 1997

Video Box III in Roseau expanded to include additional tanning area in the former Sally’s Tanning Salon.

An open house for Mrs. Dewey (Tillie) Budd on her 85th birthday was held on March 8 at the Four Seasons Center.

Leland Lee of Roseau passed away on February 20 at Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home at the age of 80. He was the postmaster for Wannaska for 42 years and was on the board of directors for the Citizens State Bank for 49 years.

The road to State for the Roseau Rams hockey team was barricaded once again as the Rams were defeated by the Warroad Warriors 4-3. Scoring for Warroad were Lee Marvin, Drew Parsley and Tanner Martell (2). Scoring for Roseau were David Lundbohm, Mike Klema and Andy Lundbohm. Jamie Simmons was in goal for Roseau.

Members of the Roseau Lady Rams basketball team were Anna Grafstrom, Kelly Hovda, Megan Taylor, Sarah Lundbohm, Katie Pearson, Holly Slattery, Kari Hagen, Cathy Gotziaman, Tanya Ulvin, Jessica Oster, Sarah Lefor and Kristi Glassmann.

The Roseau Rams sent three wrestlers; Oliver Ullman, Nate Hendrickson and Josh Jaenicke to the State Tournament.

Keith and Pamela Markstrom of Roseau announced the birth of a son, Nicholas Keith, born January 11, 1997.

40 years ago – Mar. 3, 1982

Louis Knochenmus won the Master Crop Grower Award at the Red River Valley Winter Shows. It was the first time the award had come to Roseau County.

A seven-day-a-week bus run from Fargo to Baudette may begin to run through Roseau County on March 31.

Roseau County students who were winners in the annual Red River Valley Winter Shows Horse Drawing Contest were Jon Nelson of Wannaska, Allie Michal and Stacey Johnson of Roseau and Jason Bertilrud and Toni Carter of Greenbush.

Roseau Ram wrestlers Gary Przekwas and Daryl Mickelson qualified for the State Wrestling Meet. They were coached by Jeff Olsen and Steve Furuseth.

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Dvergsten became the parents of a son, Jerad Allan, born on Feb. 25 at the Roseau Area Hospital.

Jeremy and Jennifer Rinde, children of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rinde, were winners in the Jaycee Women’s photo contest held in Roseau. Keith Allan Medhus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Medhus, was winner in the 0-2 year old division of the photo contest.

50 years ago – Mar. 2, 1972

David Dokken, Roseau, was promoted to purchasing manager at the Polaris plant in Roseau.

A snowmobile driven by Greg Hedlund went under a tree on the river. He was partially blinded by snow thrown from other machines and struck his head on the tree. He was badly hurt.

On the crossroad near the golf course a snowmobile driven by Ranae Lynn Olson with Mary Jane Salpacka as a passenger, and a car driven by Clair O. Majer of Roseau collided. Miss Salpacka fractured her left leg.

Wheaties “Breakfast of Champions” sold for 29¢ at the Roseau Red Owl store.

Joanne Larson of Roseau was named an active member of Alpha Beta Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority on the University of North Dakota campus.

A Wannaska couple, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Rygh, were named Roseau County Honor Farmer and Homemaker.

Chris Schwichtenberg of Roseau bowled a perfect 300 game in the state bowling tournament held in Hibbing.

An official new world’s record of 131.58 miles-per-hour was set at Roseau by the “Boss Cat” of Arctic Enterprises as Charles Lofton blasted the special machine to victory in the open class speed contest competition.

75 years ago – Mar. 6, 1947

Row’s Lumber Yard in Roseau was celebrating their silver anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Wammer of Badger were chosen as Roseau County’s Outstanding Farm Family.

Gordon Hetteen, who together with John Nelson was cutting wood for Art Lisell in Malung, had the misfortune to cut his right kneecap. Stitches were required to close the wound.

Mr. and Mrs. Thorbjorn Bolin of Wannaska announced the birth of a daughter born at the Budd Hospital.

Roland Fredrickson was taking an enforced vacation and was having a “swell time.” He was down with the mumps.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pelowski entertained fifteen youngsters and several grownups at their home. The event was in honor of the fifth birthday anniversary of their son, Allan.

Mary Kay, 6-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vacura, was recently baptized at their home. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Grand.
