Northborn™ Days - June 10-11 The Perfect Way to Kick off Your Summer

April 30, 2022

We are now only six weeks away from Northborn™ Days and there is so much fun packed into this two-day event that we are going to break it down in a series of articles over the next six weeks! This week, we will share an overview of the event, then check back in every edition to learn more about what we have in store for each day. Follow us at @northborndays on Facebook and Instagram or visit northborndays.org if you want to learn more.

We are Northborn. This concept was coined in 2019 when Allison Park was dedicated in honor of Allison Marvin and to all the children of the North Country. It speaks to the spirit of those who live here: their grit, fearlessness, adventurous spirit, and kindness. At the dedication ceremony and event in 2019, there were an estimated 1500 people in attendance, and the feedback received following the event was “we need to do this every year!” Warroad Community Partners began laying plans for an annual event, and while the pandemic stifled our community event plans in 2020, the first Northborn Days event launched in the summer of 2021.

Now in its second year, Northborn Days is scheduled to take place at Allison Park on June 10th and 11th. Friday will kick off with the free-will offering community picnic complete with free cotton candy! During the first half of the day, the Northborn Birthday Party will celebrate the birthday of the park’s namesake and the anniversary of the park itself with various activity stations set up across the park. This cowboy/cowgirl themed party will feature a children’s entertainer from Medora on the stage for two interactive shows, and water games and races will be offered to close out the birthday celebration. Then the Northborn Talent Competition will take place in the evening. Formerly Warroad Sings, this local vocal talent competition is open to those ages 13 and older in the northwest region of the state! Cash prizes are offered to the top three contenders in each age division with the members of Johnny Cochran from Nashville serving as judges! To end the night, an outdoor movie under the stars will be shown.

The fun will continue on Saturday with the Northborn Music Festival. This festival is intentionally not dedicated to a set genre, but instead will include four different bands throughout the day. Good Morning Bedlam, a bluegrass-folk band that performed at 2021’s event will start the day off, followed by Johnny Cochran with country music straight out of Nashville! Church of Cash, will bring the genre-spanning music of Johnny Cash to the stage in award-winning fashion, before 4 on the Floor finishes out the night with their rock and roll sound. In addition to all the fun on the stage, there will be food trucks, beer gardens, and plenty of onsite activities to keep you entertained throughout the day.
