The 2017 Homeschool Commencement Ceremony was to be held on May 13 at Warroad Baptist Chuch. Graduates were Eric Bergman, Christina Otto, Samantha Kelley, Ian J. Medicraft, Kayden King, Erin Danielson, John Kavanagh and Logan James Rairdon.

Roseau Pioneer Farm Grand Opening Pancake Breakfast was to be held on May 13 at the Pioneer Farm.

Bethany Erickson, daughter of Douglas and Rachal Erickson of Roseau, was named a Top 10 Senior by the North Dakota State University College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources.

Roseau Ram varsity golfers on the boys team were Tal Haliday, Gus Vatnsdal, Josh Olson, Quinn Tangen, Izaak Olson, Nathan Adrian and Bryden Stoskopf.

Roseau Eagles Auxiliary Soup and Salad Day was to be held on May 10 at the Roseau VFW.

The theme of the 2012 Roseau High School Prom was “Enchanted Evening”.

Winning team awards at the Ram Girls Basketball awards banquet were Michaela Lund (Most Improved), Bethany Erickson (Offensive Award), Breanna Hebel (Super-Sub), Jasmyn Hatlestad (MVP and Rams Award).

Jesse Eastman, son of Rod and Jackie (Hagen) Eastman, was leading the Roseau Ram boys track team in all their meets. Recently he placed first in Crookston in the long jump, triple jump, high jump and first in the 100 meter and 200 meter runs.

Breiland’s Baler Service in Wannaska received the “Vermeer Platinum Masters Dealer” award from Vermeer Corporation.

25 years ago – May 3, 1997

A “Spring Art Show and Open House” was scheduled for May 5-9 at all three Border State Bank locations. People can register to win a painting by Frances Karlsson. One was to be given away at each location.

Maynard “Buck” Nelson was celebrating his 90th birthday with an open house on May 10 at the Warroad Care Center.

Pam Iverson, wife of Gregg Iverson of Greenbush, was recently inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an education honor society at Moorhead State University. She was currently student teaching in the Roseau school.

Danny Desrosier and his wife Lisa are the new owners of the Roseau Dairy Queen.

Kelly Hagen and Scott Kofstad were married on May 3 in Roseau and were living west of town in their new home they built.

Mike Mattson of Karlyn Mugaas of Roseau were named to the Region 1 and 2 MN Knowledge Bowl All Region Academic Team.

40 years ago – May 5, 1982

Lisa Eidsmoe, RHS junior, active cheerleader and “spark”, was pictured being wheeled through the arched arms of all her junior-senior classmates at the Roseau “Endless Love” themed prom. Lisa is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlen Eidsmoe of rural Roseau.

Charles Lofton, who farms near Wannaska started a new business in Roseau, “Roseau Liquid Ag”, a spreading and liquid fertilizer business.

The Roseau School Board accepted the resignations of Mrs. Marie Comstock, Mrs. Luella Erickson and A.J. Kramer.

Leonard Wilson, Roseau City Foreman, retired after 34 years of service in Roseau.

Harold Kloempken resigned his post as Roseau Area Hospital Administrator and was being succeeded by David Hagen.

A Mother’s Day craft sale was to be held at the Arnold Honl home on Center Street. Hardwood crafts by Charles, clocks by Arnold and Norwegian Rosemaling on wood and China by Jean. The sale would be held on May 6 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Charter members at the 30th anniversary party of the Roseau Lions included Carl Wahlberg, Oscar Almquist, W.S. Adams, Jim Helgeson, Jim Wilson, Bill Pitbaldo and Norman Flagstad.

Roseau girl, Constance Maria Lund, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lund was a contestant in the Miss United Teenager Contest.

Members of the Pistons, the 6th grade girls basketball team in Roseau were Melaine Solberg, Heather Monsrud, Jana Orvis, Tanya Helgeson, Michelle Taylor, Lynette Thompson, Terry Kimble, Shawna Norberg and Carie Lien.

50 years ago – May 4, 1972

Maynard Braaten and Yvonne Magnusson filed for positions on the Roseau School Board.

George Mundis was named president of the Northland Jaycees. Bill Moberg was first vice-president and Jerry Endrizzi was second vice-president.

The Roseau Village Council granted a beer license to Harvey E. Skogstad who took over the Center Bar from Frank Grugal.

Dorwart Motors recently moved from their downtown Center Street location to a large new lot west of Roseau on Highway 11.

After four baseball games the leading hitters for the Rams were Tom Lund and Craig Baumgartner (both with .429 averages) and Rick Vatnsdal and Dave Wagner were the leading pitchers with one win each.

Both Dean Byfuglien and Severin Halvorson of the Ross Area met with painful accidents during the weekend and spent a few days in the Roseau Hospital.

75 years ago – May 8, 1947

Eighteen piglets were born to a Chester White sow on the farm of Cornelius Erickson south of Wannaska. It was reported that 14 of the litter were living which could be a record.

Polio caused the death of Mrs. Julia Sonsteng, wife of Haakon Sonsteng of Jadis. Mrs. Sonsteng is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Bakken of Jadis.

Mrs. Mathea Brateng, early settler of Wannaska, died of a heart ailment.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Erickson of Salol announced the birth of a son.

A miscellaneous shower was given for Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gross in the Immanuel Church parlor.

Mr. and Mrs. Milford Markstrom moved into the Ole Johnson home recently vacated by the Melvin Markstrom family.

Mrs. Annette Edwards and Mrs. Orvin Simonson were new employees at the Roseau Cafe.

Mrs. Delbert Dieter was honored on her natal day by a number of her friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lundbohm returned from their honeymoon trip. They motored south as far as Texas and then continued their motor trip to points west and returned.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harms Jr. moved to an apartment in the second story of Peterson Hardware.
