On Monday, a lousy day since there are better things to do than sitting here trying to write, the phone rang.
This bloke began singing "Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me!"
He had turned 80 on Saturday, and I had completely forgotten.
It was my good pal, John Alexis, formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and I had first spotted him at Mankato State College in 1962.
Mr. Alexis had arrived there with the hopes of becoming a walk-on for the nationally-ranked Mankato State College wrestling team coached by the legendary Rummy Macias.
