Over Warroad River

And down Lake Street

To Allison Park we go,

The kids know the way,

They've been there to sleigh,

Wearing their warmest clothes.

Over Warroad River

And down Lake Street

For Cookies and hot cocoa,

To see Jolly St. Nick,

The Christmas tree lit

With sparkling lights all aglow.

Over Warroad River

And down Lake Street

Our friends will all be here

We'll sing of Jesus' birth

And Peace on Earth

Spreading Christmas cheer.

Once again Allison Park and the streets of Warroad are decorated to fill hearts with the warmth of Christmas even as temperatures continue to drop.

While most of us are toasty warm, the City of Warroad Utility Crew of Superintendent Dan Trosen, Kevin Hanson, Dillon Moser, Jeff Hellquist, Rick Thompson, Dan Mauer, Johnny Johnson and Jeff Ploof, head of the Parks Department, have spent numerous hours hanging Christmas cheer on street lights and strings of twinkling color throughout Allison Park.

On Saturday September 26 the 6th Annual Light up the Holidays will take place in Warroad with many not-to-be missed events:

2 p.m. Mrs. Claus will hold a special holiday story time at Lake of the Woods Coffee.

Warroad Area Women of Today will also be present to judge the Cookie Bake Off in three categories: Most Delicious, Most Beautiful, and Best Heritage, with a special category added for Children 12 and Under.

To enter the Bake Off, two dozen cookies must be brought to Lake of the Woods Coffee between noon and 2:00 p.m. that Saturday.

3–5 p.m. Hayrides will be available at Allison Park with Country Corn Maze. Northern Toboggan will also have sleds available for sledding.

5 p.m. the Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin with a prayer. This years nominated 2022 Tree Lighter is the energetic Loralee Marvin, who may or may not appear in one of her many inventive costumes that adds to numerous events throughout the year.

"I'm both honored and humbled to be nominated this year's Tree Lighter," enthused Loralee. "I so enjoy doing what is right, fun, and a way to make life better and brighter for those around me. As far as what I'll be wearing?? I haven't decided!"

After the lighting of the trees, winners of the Storefront Decorating Contest and Cookie Bake Off will be announced. The singing of Christmas carols will follow, with hot cocoa and cookies served, and a visit from Santa.

Visit warroadcommunity.org or follow on Facebook at warroadlightuptheholidays to see a community-wide calendar of all Christmas events and activities. A Tour of Lights will be scheduled for the community to drive around to view participating residents of the Residential Decorating Competition.
