Badger- David Allen Trangsrud was born August 22, 1950 to Clifford and Blanche Trangsrud. He grew up on a dairy farm in Duxby and attended the Ross school for eight years. He then attended Roseau High School, graduating with the class of 1968.

Following high school, he went on to Crookston where he took flight training and earned his pilot's license. He developed a lifelong love of flying and enjoyed flying his Stinson aircraft.
