Adalyn Marie Thompson will always be the best Christmas gift that Shanda Christofferson and Shane Thompson will ever receive.
The Warroad couple have known each other since they were in high school.
"It's my first baby!" she said excitedly on Wednesday, a day after checking out of LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau.
The baby was born at 8:15 p.m. on Christmas Day and didn't rush things.
You know little girls!
They like to take their time.
"We arrived at the hospital at midnight on the 24th or the 25th, I guess," said Shanda, adding that Adalyn Marie tipped the scales at six pounds and six ounces.
On Wednesday afternoon at home in Warroad with her newborn daughter, she was asked how they plan to celebrate Adalyn's birthday every Christmas.
"I don't know what we're going to do yet. We'll have to make sure we do something special to celebrate her birthday."
Dr. James Erickson performed the delivery.
And yes, they knew they were going to have a baby girl and had picked out a bunch of names.
"We actually narrowed it down to two. About two weeks ago, we picked out her name."
What was the other name?
"Olivia," she said.
Then, she enthusiastically described her daughter.
"She is beautiful!"
Is her daddy really excited?
"Oh, yes! She is wrapped around his finger already."
The 2006 Warroad High School graduate is truly excited about being a first time mother of a Christmas Day baby.
"I'm getting old," she laughed.
But not that old.
If she were old, she'd be using cloth diapers.
It'll be Pampers for Adalyn Marie, this year's best Christmas present!
