Mechanical systems sustained extensive damage after a burglary was reported Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Brickhouse Restaurant and Bar in Roseau.

Michael Shane Mooney Jr., 28, was linked to the crime after he was interviewed for a theft allegation regarding another business. His shoes linked him to the crime.

Mooney has been charged with felony first degree damage to property and felony third degree burglary. He was arrested. Mooney allegedly admitted causing the damage because he was “bored,” according to the complaint.

Police Chief Marc Hodge said the burglary and vandalism were reported at 9:50 a.m. Jan. 18.

On its Facebook page, the restaurant noted that its gas boiler, six rooftop furnaces, equipment, walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers sustained damage.

According to the complaint, Mooney allegedly spray-painted walls and damaged electrical breakers, causing more than $1,000 in damage.

Two days after the report, Hodge was interviewing Mooney regarding an allegation of a misdemeanor theft reported at Dollar General.

He noticed that Mooney’s shoes contained spray paint that allegedly matched the color of the spray paint used to damage the Brickhouse.

Hodge then asked to see the tread of the shoes. The tread seemed to match footprints left in the snow at the restaurant.
