Evelyn Karlstad was born on October 9, 1931, in Falun Township, Roseau County, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Nem and Inga (Thorstenson) Karlstad. Along with her 12 siblings, she was raised on the Karlstad farm and attended District 112 School in Falun Township.
