Salol- Jerry D. Vertina was born May 28th, 1936, to Adolph and Olga (Anderson) Vertina at their home in Pencer. He graduated 8th grade from the Beaver School.

He had a long work history which started at age 15, working at farms in North Dakota, beet planting, harvesting, etc. He worked for a home building company in International Falls at age 19. Went to a paint and decorating business there and learned a lot about home interiors, which included training by Armstrong Flooring in Minneapolis, where he learned and was the first to install Ceramic Tile in International Falls.
