Mrs. Clara Johnson Is One Kind Lady

At 92 years young Clara's memory is impeccable. "I'm thankful for that," she said. She grew up in Roseau and started teaching at the age of 19 at a little country school near Greenbush called Haug-Leo.

"In 1950 I started teaching and I went to Thief River Falls to teacher's training for a year. We could teach two years but then we had to go back to earn teaching credits."

She retired in 1986. She has a lot of memories from her teaching days, but her best memory as a teacher is she said, "Working with all the kids and teaching them how to read."
