Spencer Johnston was celebrating his 80th birthday on August 17 with a party at his home in Salol.
Border State Bank won the last two weeks in the Roseau Ladies Golf League. Members of the team included Jessica Herling, Lisa Vacura, Michelle Hagen, Nicole Hagen, Kammy Fettig and Amanda Zimmerman.
Celebrating their July birthdays at the Four Seasons Center were Diane Dorwart, Carol Comstock, Eunice Millner, Michelle Gregerson, Dick Dorwart, Irvin Schmidtke, Bill Baumgartner and Floyd Grindahl.
McKayla Christianson of Roseau was selected to receive a $1,000 academic scholarship from the National Propane Gas Foundation for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Cathy Coffman of Roseau was the recent winner of an IPod Shuffle from Citizens State Bank of Roseau.
Roseau County Ford fair drawing winners were: Sanford Klamar- free oil change, Carol Fish- free oil change and Kelly Olson- $100 gas card.

25 years ago – July 31, 1999
Prominent faces in Roseau- Gary Grindahl, from Wally’s, Bonnie Delmore from Bonnie’s Floral, Luther Johnson from JCPenney, Beth Bakken from North Border Realty, Bill Rey from the Credit Bureau and JoAnn Burkel from RJ’s Place got thrown in the “slammer” and charged with “Having a big heart for Jerry’s Kids.” Their crime was helping to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy research.
Jessica Oster, daughter of Todd and Sandy Oster of Roseau was accepted into Jamestown College’s 1999-2000 freshman class. She planned to participate in softball while at college.
Local graduates of St. Cloud State University were Jason Hammerback of Roseau and Jodee Kvarnlov and Patti Aker of Warroad.
Chuck’s Wagon marked its 20th year at the Roseau County Fair. Charles “Chuck” Erickson is the longtime proprietor of Chuck’s Wagon and Chuck’s Too.

The new fair barn arena at the Roseau County Fair was dedicated to seasoned fairgoer Andy Erickson of Badger.
Thilda Johnson of Roseau and Jay Estling of Roosevelt were named the Senior Citizens of the Year at the Roseau County Fair grandstand.
Arnold Turner from Carona, California was the winner of the 1985 Indy Trail snowmobile given away at the Polaris 30th anniversary celebration.
Tom Kastl of the Northwest Angle was exhibiting his handmade chairs at the Roseau County Fair. The folks at the Northwest Angle call him “the Chairman of Bear River”.
Brian and Kaydell Wensloff of Roseau announced the birth of a daughter, Erica Lynn Wensloff, born July 19.
Jon and Valerie Johnson were named this year’s Clean Farm winners. They are dairy farmers who reside north of Badger.
“Bob Palm and the Night Riders” were playing at a dance on August 3 at Springsteel Resort Lodge.
Milo Broten and Al Kimble were pictured with a 28 pound lake trout Milo caught and released somewhere in Manitoba and Ontario.

The 1974 Roseau County Fair royalty were Mary Jane Nelson, Jadis, attendant; Jill Olson, Jr. Workers, attendant; Gail Fugleberg, Jadis, attendant; Sandra Nelson, Stafford, Aces, attendant; Pam Magnusson, Jadis, princess; and Debbie Grahn, Clothings Revue Queen.
Mrs. Ingeborg Dahlgren of Roseau and Ben Mickelson of Badger were recognized as the outstanding senior citizens in Roseau County.
Wayne Dahl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Dahl of Roseau, was critically injured at Gonvick when the pop-out valve on a propane tank he had just completed filling blew out.
Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Roseau Museum-Library Complex were held last week.
A Roseau girl, Connie Jean Skogstad, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Skogstad, died as a result of a one-car rollover a half-mile west of Piney, Manitoba, Canada.Honorary pallbearers were Keith Markstrom, Alan Gunderson, Mike Stone, Bruce Foss, Bobby Evanson, Alan Brandt, Sheldon Vatnsdal, Bernard Foss and Richard Glennen.
A mountain lion (cougar, puma) was spotted at the Northwest Angle by David Johnson and Harry Hites on July 27.
Don Herre was installed as commander of the Roseau American Legion.
Keith Markstrom was eligible to win a free trip to Scotland and $1,000 as a result of scoring a hole-in-one at the Oakcrest Golf Course.
75 years ago – Aug. 4, 1949
Alfred Kompelien shot a 250 pound, three-year-old bear on his farm a mile north of Pinecreek.
Dr. J.L. Delmore has served the Roseau Community for forty years as of August 1 when he arrived in Roseau; tall, slim and single.
Phyllis Magnusson, Donald Norlin and Norma Lee were pictured with some of the many gifts given them by the Norwegian people with whom they stayed on their recent tour of Norway.
Miss Anna Arneson and Gerhard R. Anderson, both of the Roseau Community, were united in marriage. Rev. and Mrs. A.C. Rykken sang a duet before the ceremony.
Robert Severson of Wannaska recently celebrated his first birthday.
Miss Edda Fisher of Warroad was employed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schell at Pencer.
Luther Hegland and Kenneth Grand were recovering from appendectomies performed at the Budd Hospital.
Little Debbie Heskin of Pinecreek was taped up these days following a fall from her high-chair, causing a fractured collar bone.
