After a fantastic week at the Roseau County Fair, the Roseau County Historical Society & Museum is ready to shift gears and focus on a lineup of exciting upcoming events. From book releases to painting classes and thrilling dinner theaters, there’s something for everyone to look forward to.
Kicking off the month of August with a mystical twist, join us on Monday, August 5th, from 3 to 4 p.m. for the official release party of “Wendigo Lore.” Authors Chad Lewis and Kevin Nelson will be at the museum to discuss their new book, sharing insights and tales about the most feared creature ever to set foot in North America. This event is a unique opportunity to hang out and chat with the authors. The event is free, but attendees can purchase a copy of the book for a personalized signing.
For those with an artistic flair or a curiosity about painting, the “Watercolor Wanderings” painting class with Debbie Aune is not to be missed. Running from August 7th to 9th, these classes offer a chance to capture scenic views and bring them to life on canvas. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting, Debbie's classes promise an enriching experience. With sessions running throughout the day, participants can choose a single session or take advantage of discounted rates for multiple sessions. This outdoor painting adventure is funded by a Northwest Minnesota Arts Council grant and the Minnesota Arts and Culture Heritage Fund, requires pre-registration, and is limited to 15 painters per session.
September brings a different kind of excitement with the much-anticipated Murder Mystery Dinner Theater event. On September 14th, Gene’s Bar and Grill will host “Midnight at the Masquerade Ball,” where guests will enter a world of suspense and intrigue. As masks conceal identities, participants will be challenged to unmask the killer among them. This event is not just a thrilling evening out but also a fundraiser for the museum, ensuring continued support for our cultural and historical programs.
Later in the month, on September 18th, the museum will host the “Save Your Stuff” program at the Greenbush Community Center in collaboration with the Kittson County Historical Society. Starting at 2 p.m., this free, informative session will teach attendees how to care for their art, heirlooms, and personal collections. Megan Brakob Narvey, Outreach Conservator at the Minnesota Historical Society, will lead the program, offering valuable tips on preservation and protection, followed by an open Q&A session. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to safeguard their treasured items from deterioration.
As we transition from the fair to these enriching and diverse activities, the Roseau County Historical Society & Museum invites everyone to join in and participate. Whether you're interested in local lore, artistic endeavors, mystery-solving, or preservation techniques, our upcoming events promise to educate, entertain, and engage the community. We look forward to seeing you!
